11th January 23
Dear Sir,
As my Committee understand that either you or your Company are the owner of the Motor Boat "Alfreda" which ran into and caused the destruction of the lower gates of the Bristol Road Lock at Whitminster on Thursday last, the 4th inst., I am instructed to give you formal notice that the Company must hold the owner responsible for the damage done to the Company's work and any loss suffered by the Company as a consequence thereof.
