Re offer to pump out canal on Saturday at cost of around £20. Am arranging for my men to meet the Diver on Thursday. We are anxious to work canal on 10th March as two barges are coming down on way to Newport for shipment on 12th, but before that gap must be filled in and dam removed. Many manufacturers are dependent on reopening of canal

Dear Sir,
Referring to the arrangement per phone this afternoon that you will have the gap and pump ready on Saturday next to start pumping out the length of Canal between the day and the Bristol Road Lock & the cost of pumping to be about £20:-
In the meantime I am arranging for my men to meet the Diver (Thursday) but anything done in this direction would only be temporary. We are anxious to be able to work the lock on the 10 March, on that day two barges are coming down the Canal on their way to Newport for shipment on the 12^th March and our other traders are constantly making enquiries about the re-opening of the Canal, but before barges can pass I take it the gap will have to be filled in and some part of the dam removed and that when the gates are properly fitted all the work at the dam will have to be again undertaken.
In the circumstances I hope you will do all you can to assist us in our endeavours to re-open the Canal at the earliest possible moment -- a resumption of traffic would be not only to the mutual advantage but a convenience to the large number of manufacturers dependant on the Canal. It is a very serious condition of things and I hope you will give same your consideration.
I await your kind reply
Yours faithfully
