To Canal Association (Sedgwick)
London

Summary

Traffic in canal not sufficient to allow effective dredging or weeding. More and more difficult for barge to navigate waterway. Severn & Canal Carrying Co propose extensive dredging and weeding. Grant from Ministry of Transport. Useless without permanent increase of traffic. Difficult to repay loan. Would Ministry make grant and on what terms? Only traffic on upper part of canal tar barge calling at Stroud Gas Works. Owners want dredging done but expensive. Continued on 618.
