From John R Denyer
To Messrs Parkend Coal & Co
Lydney

Summary

Quarter day for settlement of coal account arrived but understanding needed before start another quarter as the unfair manner in which the shipping of coal during the past quarter is not to be endured nor shall it be. Vessels which carry coals higher up River Severn than Framilode pick & cull largest coals and barges that once loaded under the shoot having to give way to such vessels. Consequently their cargo is a picked one and more saleable than any recently received & going into very market the Company has been supplying. Want reassurance any vessel I may send will be loaded without having large coals picked from the cargo or any partiality to the prejudice of her cargo. Without such assurance not send another boat.
