In reply to your enquiry of the 27th Ulto I beg to acquaint you the rates of Tonnage on the Stroudwater Canal are to Wallbridge Wharf for Coals & Slates 2/6, For Hay, Timber & all other Merchandize 3/6 per Ton.
To Dudbridge Wharf, Coals & Slates 2/4, Hay, Timber and all other Merchandize 3/2 per Ton.
The Thames & Severn Canal joins ours at this place, by which means there is a conveyance to Cirencester, Oxford, London and intermediate places; and a drawback is allowed of 4d per Ton on all articles carried to Cirencester & further on (except Coals to Cirencester).
And all articles brought from Cirencester, when former cargo amounted to 20 Tons thence, a charge only of 6d per Ton backwards.
When Coals, Slates & all other Merchandize go up the Thames & Severn Canal to Brimscombe Port, the charge on the Stroudwater Canal is only 1/ per Ton, but when put out at the Stroud Wharf and places below Brimscombe 1/3 per Ton for Coals, & 2/3 for Merchandize.
I shall be happy to afford you any further information on the subject.
PS We never charge less than 20 Tons.
