At a general Meeting of the Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation for putting into Execution an Act of Parliament passed this Sessions for Making a Navigation from Framiload to Walbridge near the Town of Stroud in the County of Glocester; held at the George Inn in Stroud aforesaid on Thursday the fourth Day of April 1776 for the purpose of Nominating a Committee, Treasurer, and Clerks, for the Management of the said Navigation for the Year next following in pursuance of the said Act.
The said proprietors did in pursuance of a former Method prescribed for regulating the Ballatt for the above Choice appoint M^r Jn^o Colborne and M^r Francis Knight Inspectors, and M^r Joseph Grazebrook and M^r William Wathen Scrutineers for the present Election, and the following return was made by William Knight Esq^r the Chairman:
M^r James Winchcombe, M^r William Knight, M^r Joseph Wathen, M^r Robert Ellis, M^r John Hollings, M^r Thomas Baylis, M^r Thomas White, M^r Freame Arundell, M^r Durley Wintle, M^r Anthony Keck, M^r Benjamin Grazebrook, M^r Timothy Lewis, M^r Richard Bigland.
M^r Jn^o Colborne Chosen by the Proprietors, Treasurer for the Year 1776 and thanks given him for his Conduct in that Office last year. ~~~ Joseph Grazebrook Chosen Clerk at the Sallary of fifty Pounds per Annum, his Wages to Commence from this Day.
Ordered that a Call of 5^£ per Cent be made upon the Subscribers and that the same be published in the next Glocester Journal and to be paid to M^r Jn^o Colborne the Treasurer on or before the 7^th Day of May next, and that the Clerk do also give Notice thereof forthwith be Letter to each Subscriber of such Call, and the Treasurers name and place of abode to whom such Call is to be paid.
Read M^r Glyns proposals for making the Canal Navigation at the price of £14225..8..6 and defered the same to the Consideration of the Committee.
Ordered that the next General Meeting of the Proprietors shall be held the first Thursday in October next, in the Town of Stroud.
