Summary

Messrs Bearland & Kerman & Cooper to be retained as Counsel by Mr Lane.
Mr Lane to be consulted about legal tender of payment to Mr Stephens for land already cut and wanted for a wharf at side of canal.
Board of rules has been put up at Bristol Road.
Lower lock gate at Westfield, and at second lock, to be hung immediately.
Agreement made with Thomas Ellis re use of his lawn and orchard for canal.

At a Meeting of the Committee held by Adjournment at the George Inn in Stroud on Thursday the 16^th day of October 1777
Present: Joseph Wathen, John Hollings, Thomas Baylis, Durley Wintle, Robert Ellis, Thomas White, Freame Aundell, Benjamin Grazebrook.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
Ordered that M^r Grazebrook do go to M^r Lane for him to engage Mess^rs Bearcroft & Harrison & Cooper as Counsil for the Proprietors of the Navigation ~~ and that M^r Lane be consulted as to the Legal tender of payment to M^r Stephens for what Land is already Cut thro' and anted for the Wharf on the side of the Canal.
Ordered that Pickston & Gleaves do put the Men to work for Beswick according to the true interest and meaning of the articles he entered into with the Company, and that the Company will advance to the Men at the rate of 1^s/9^d per Day on Acc^t with M^r Beswick till he has settled with the Company.
The Board of Rules in put up at the Bristol Road.
Ordered that both the lower Lock Gates at Westfield be hang'd, and the lower Gate on the send Lock Immediately ~~ and the Lock cleared out.
Ordered that our Clerk do call on M^r Keck to inforce the Contract he entered into with M^r Price for the Company.
Ordered that the Articles of Subscription of an additional Sum to be advanced by the Subscribers on each Share, be handed to them immediately to be Signed.
M^r Lingard has purchased a Quantiy of Oak posts of M^r Davis.
Mess^rs Ellis & Grazebrook reported that they have waited on M^r Thomas Ellis and have agreed with him for his Orchard, and as much of the Lawn as will wanted for the Navigation ~~ Viz: the Lawn at 50^s per Annum per Acre & 35 years purchase free of Tythe & every Tax whatsoever and for the Orchard @ 50^s per Annum per Are & 32 years purchase Subject to Taxes.
Ordered that M^r Grazebrook and his Son do waite on M^rs Phelps of Dursley to treat with her for such Lands as she is Intitled to in reversion after the Decease of M^rs James ~~ also that they do waite on M^r Stephens on Monday next, & on M^r Pettat, and M^r Knight, M^r Halliday & Mess^rs Cook & Hawker & also on Henry Wyatt Esq^r.
Ordered that an Advertisment be inserted in the next Gloucester Journal to desire the attendance of the Commissioners of the Navigation at M^r Clutterbucks at Cainscross on Thursday the 6^th November at 10 oClock in the forenoon.
Ordered that M^r Bough be desired to procure a Quantity of Stone for Coping the Overhaley to Compleat the Locks to Eastington Road, on the best terms he can.
Ordered that a Bill be drawn n the Treasurer for the Sum of Four Hundred Pounds. ~~~ Ordered that Mess^rs Grazebrook & Son do wate on Henry Stephens Esq^r & M^rs Ball & make a tender for all the Lands that will be wanted for the Navigation.
Adjourned this Meetng to Thursday the 30^th Instant at 4 o Clock in the afternoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
