Summary

Letter to Mr Keck recorded in minutes. In response to his query “Is it expected that I shall keep the lock in repair for ever” they stated that the Company expect him to keep the lock in repair till he has built it according to his model and agreement. Double Lock in very ruinous state. Necessary that business be concluded as soon as possible.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held this 28^th day of Aug^t 1788 at the George Inn in Stroud
Present: Nat^l Winchcomb, Jn^o Colborne, Jn^o Hollings, Hen Burgh, Tho^s Arundell, Ben Grazebrook.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
A Draft of the Bond to be given by our Clerks for their Securities being produced, Ordered that same be engraved & Executed imediately.
Our Clerk produced a letter from Mess^rs Lane & Whitcombe respecting the Business with M^r Keck I reply to which Ordered that he do write them the following Letter, Viz: Gen^n I have laid your Letter of the 26^th of July last before the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation who have directed me to request you will acquaint M^r Keck in reply to his Queray "Is it expected that I shall keep the Lock in repair for ever" that the Company expect M^r Keck to keep the Lock in repair till he has built it according to his Model & Agreement. The Lock being in a very ruinous state, it is highly necessary that this business be concluded as soon as possible.
Rec^d an Acc^t from the Executors of M^r Jepsons amounting to £13-1-10 & by reffering to the former Accounts it appears that eight Guineas of the same have been paid, Orderd that our Clerk do inform them of it, & pay the remaining ballance.
Adjourned this Meeting to the 13^th of Oct^r next at 5 O'Clock in y^e afternoon at y^e George Inn Stroud.
