At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held on Board of the Companys Barge on Wednesday the 22^nd of May 1793 for the purposes of inspecting the Works of the Canal
Present: John Hollings, Benj^n Grazebrook, Henry Burgh, Samuel Wathen, John Allaway, Will^m Sevill, Rich^d Bigland.
Resolved that the following Reparations are absolutely necessary that they be proceeded in as soon as possible. Viz: Aquaduct at Ebley, also the Bridge at the Ryeford, Also the Swivell Bridge near Stonehouse Church. the Brick Work at the Court Orchard Lock, The Wall at the Westfield Lock and Pashleys House. Also the Crib at Framiload which is very ruinous. The Sheeting below the Double Lock being too short, a large hole is made below it, which has caus'd a Shole that impeded the Navigation. Ordered that this Shole be removed, and the Sheeting repaired and lengthened.
It being represented to us that M^r Watts men have damaged the Ryeford Bridge, Ordered that application be mad to him to repair it. Ordered that a Shed to preserved the Deals, etc, be Erected at Chippenhams Platt.
Resolved that a House be build for the Wharfinger at Dudbridge and a Warehouse erected at once in Framiload and that Will^m Greening be requested to deliver an Estimate for the building thereof.
M^r Peach attended this Meeting and complained of Damages done to his Lands by the ??ing of the Banks of the Canal, and the daming up of Thatchers Ditch. We having inspected the several Lands belonging to M^r Peach it appears that Thatchers Ditch communicates with the Canal whereby the Water is in some measure dammed up and that some Damages arrises from a breach in the Bank near Whitminster Bridge. Resolved that Sufficient Stone Drain be made through M^r Peach's Ground above the Bristol Road to the Tail of the Bristol Road Lock in order to drain the Ground Effectivally, and that the Communication of Thatchers Ditch with the Canal be substantially stopped, and the Breach repaired, and that a proper drain be made to the Culvert near the Walk Bridge.
Adjourn'd this Meeting to Thursday the 10^th of June next at Eleven o Clock in the forenoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
