Summary

Concern about risks to navigation in Stroudwater Canal from the intended junction of the two canals

Verbatim text

April 14th 1824
Mr Charleton
Sir
By direction of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation, I beg to call the attention of the Committee of the Gloster & Berkeley Canal Company to the works at the intended junction of the two Canals understanding (among other things) that the sills of the Gates are so high as they will stop the navigation of the Stroudwater Canal in the count of any accident which may hereafter occur to lower the water in that level of the Canal.
And I am directed to request that the earliest intimidation be given to me (for the guidance of the Committee) of any intention of the proprietors of the Gloster & B Canal to make any Works, which in any way affect the Stroudwater Canal in the due navigation thereof, or make any alteration to the Works of the Junction.
