At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 21st day of February 1849
Present: M^r Hen^y Sikes, M^r Hen^y Beard, Jn^o H Warman, T C Croome, Jn^o Holbrow, Rich^d Martin, Cha^s H Fisher, Fred^k Eycott, Cha^s Hooper Chairman.
M^r Hawkere read Statements from Mess^rs Brewin & Sons and M^r Joseph Smith of Cirencester respecting the Coal trade at Cirencester in which they recommend a reduction of tonnage on Coals.
These Statements were taken into consideration, but it appeared to this Committee that there was no ground for the proposed Reduction and M^r Hawker was requested to reply to them accordingly.
Joseph Cripps of Farmhill near Stroud in the County of Gloucester Esquire attended on behalf of himself and the Honorable Philip Pleydell Bouveire of the Haymarket London, Banker the Executors of Richard Hawker late of Dudbridge House near Stroud aforesaid and of Pack Street Grosvernor Square in the County of Middlesex Esquire deceased and made out the claim of himself and the said Philip Pleydell Bouverie to Ten Shares N^os 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 67, 74, 148, 196 and 3 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation lately belonging to and now standing in the name of the said Richard Hawker in the Books of the Company of Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigaion by producing the Probate of the Will of the said Richard Hawker bearing date the 4th day of August 1847 whereby he appointed the said Philip Pleydell Bouveries and Joseph Cripps Executors to his said Will who duly proved the same in Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury on the 11th day of December 1848 and by producing evidence to the satisfaction of this Committee that the original Tickets or Titles to the said several Shares had been lost which evidence consisted of a statutory declaration of searches amongst the papers of the said Richard Hawker and of the belief of the said Executors that the said Tickets of Titles had been lost confirmed by statements to the same effect made by the said Richard Hawker in his lifetime. And the claim of the said Philip Pleydell Bouveries and Joseph Cripps to the said Ten Shares is admitted accordingly. And the Clerk and Treasurer are requested to make out new Tickets for the said Philip Pleydell Bouverie and Joseph Cripps for the said Shares.
M^r Driver attended and reported that injury had been done to the Lock Gates near Whitminster.
Ordered that the Clerk do draw up a Notice offering a Reward of Five pounds for information which shall lead to the conviction of the Offenders.
Ordered that Notice be given by the Clerk to M^r Eycott or the Proprietors of the Gravel Pit rented by this Company of their intention to give up the occupation thereof on the 29th September next, or whenever else the current year of the Company's tenancy shall expire next after Six Months from the service of the Notice.
Ordered that the Clerk and Treasurer be requested to make out a new Certificate or Ticket for the Share N^o 130 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation now standing in the name of Henry Sikes of the City of Gloucester Esquire on his delivering up the Transfers thereof to himself He having proved to the satisfaction of this Committee that the original Ticket or Title to the said share is lost.
Ordered that the following Bills and Accounts be paid, Viz:
