At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 14^th day of May 1856
Present: M^r Cha^s Hawker, M^r W^m Fryer Chairman, J H Warman, T C Croome, Rich^d Martin, N S Marling, H^y Harris.
M^rs Mary Clutterbuck on the 8^th April informed M^r Partridge that she intended to leave the House at Dudbridge in her occupation & it is reported that she has since left it.
Resolved that she be charged Rent till Midsummer unless she finds an acceptable Tenant in the mean time.
Mess^rs Ford having made a renewed application for the proposed Liebye at their Mill and it appearing that in building their new warehouse they have so erected it as to reduce the space intended to be devoted to Waterway and that the work cannot in the opinion of the Committee be carried out according to the original plan,
Resolved that they be informed that in consequence this Committee is unwilling to incur any expense on a work which in their opinion cannot be made efficient but they are willing to do any work at the expense of Mess^rs Ford to afford them better accommodation than at present in unloading Barges.
It was reported that a Slip of Land on the North side of the Canal near the Ryeford had taken place & that a quantity of soil has fallen into the Canal & carried the piles with it.
Resolved that the Surveyor do remove the obstruction to the Navigation.
It was reported that the above mentioned Slip was occasioned by a quantity of SOil placed on the Banks by Mess^rs Ford.
Resolved that M^r Warman M^r Eycott M^r Beard & M^r Croome be a Subcommittee to communicated with Mess^rs Ford on these several matters & superintend the removal of the soil that has slipped.
Resolved that the following be paid viz:
