Exact mileage rate cannot be practically worked.
A tonnage scale for coal travelling up the canal with near approximation of mileage is listed.
A tonnage scale for merchandise carried up and down the canal from the railway at Stonehouse is provided.
At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Friday the 23^d day of October 1857
Present: M^r Cha^s Hawker, M^r W^m Fryer Chairman, J H Warman, H^y Harris, F Eycott, G H A Beard, R^d Martin, T C Croome, N S Marling.
The various Account Books and Vouchers signed by M^r Cooper the Auditor and certified to be correct were produced and examined.
The Treasurer's Book was produced examined and signed.
The Committee report that they have considered the Resolution of the Special General Meeting held on the 22^d July last relative to the establishment of a Mileage rate for Tonnage on Coals and they find that an exact Mileage rate cannot be practically worked.
The Committee have therefore after much consideration resolved to recommend the following rates of Tonnage on Coals carried from Framilode or the Junction with the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal which scale has been calculated with a view to a very near approximation to a Mileage rate viz:
Junction with Gloucester & Berkeley Canal: 1^d per Ton.
Walkbridge: 3 per Ton.
Bristol Road: 7 per Ton.
Chip Plat & Eastington: 9 per Ton.
Bonds Mill & Stonehouse Wharf: 11 per Ton.
Ryeford: 1/1 per Ton.
Ebley Wharf and Ebley Mill: 1/3 per Ton.
Dudbridge & Nicholsons Wharf: 1/4 per Ton.
Gas Works, Froomehall & Lodgemore: 1/5 per Ton.
Wallbridge: 1/6 per Ton.
With regards to Coals carried from the Railway Station at Stonehouse the Committee also report that the recommend the following Scale of Charges viz:
Down the Canal
To Bonds Mill: 3^d per Ton
To Eastington: 8 per Ton
Below Eastington: 1/ per Ton
Up the Canal
To Davies Mill & Stonehouse: 3^d per Ton
To Ryeford: 5 per Ton
To Ebley & Ebley Mill: 1/ per Ton
To Wallbridge: 1/6 per Ton
