Summary

Mr Whiting of Nailsworth claimed loss of two casks of butter in transmission from Bristol through Dudbridge Wharf. He wished to have assurance on behalf of himself and other traders as to responsibility of Company for goods left in warehouse at Dudbridge Wharf. Mr Warman and Mr Harris to see wharfinger and devise a plan for safekeeping of goods for the future.
Mr Robert Gardiner, steerer for Messrs. Webb of the Bourne of the barge ‘Conway’, to be summoned for damaging the lock gates at Dudbridge by navigating the barge without a fender contrary to the byelaws and having only two hands with the barge.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Thursday the 24^th day of October 1861
Present; M^r J H Warman, M^r Tho^s Marling Chairman, F Eycott, T M Croome, H^y Harris, C Hooper, G H A Beard, C H Fisher.
The various accounts Books and Vouchers signed by M^r Cooper the Auditor and certified to be correct were produced and examined.
The Treasurer's Book was produced examined and signed.
M^r Whiting of Nailsworth attended and stated that he had recently incurred a loss of two Casks of Butter in the course of their transmission from Bristol through Dudbridge Wharf, and though there was no imputation of the loss having occurred at the Wharf, he wished to have some assurance for the future on behalf of himself and other Traders as to the responsibility of the Company for goods left in the Warehouse at Dudbridge Wharf. Ordered that it be left to M^r Warman and M^r Harris to see the Wharfinger on the subject and devise some plan for the safe keeping of such Goods for the future for the satisfaction of the Traders.
Ordered that Robert Gardiner steerer for M^rs Webb of the Bourne of the Barge "Conway" be summoned for (?) against the Lock Gate at Dudbridge by navigating the Barge without a Fender contrary to the Bye Laws and having only two hands with the Barge.
