Mr Warman and Mr Kearsey reported the result of their attendance in London on the opposition of the Canal Company to the Severn Junction Railway Company’s Bill. They read the clauses inserted in the Bill and the agreement obtained from the Railway Company for the protection of the Canal Company’s interests and for the interchange of traffic between railway and canal at Framilode, where the railway crosses the canal. Letter on compromise from Mr J Thornhill Harrison, engineer recorded in minutes.
Clauses inserted and agreement for purchase and demise by lease for 999 years at peppercorn rent of land required by Canal Company for accommodation of traffic between railway and canal very favourable to canal.
Letter from Messrs. Martin and Leslie, Parliamentary Agents, enclosing principal Agreement with comment on favourable terms.
At an adjourned Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Saturday the 1^st day of July 1865 to take into consideration the Severn Junction Railway Bill and for general business
Present: M^r F Eycott, W W Kearsey Chairman, G H A Beard, C H Fisher, J H Warman, J T Fisher, C Hawker.
M^r Warman, the Solicitor, and M^r Kearsey reported the result of their attendance in London on the opposition of the Canal Company to the Severn Junction Railway Company's Bill (which passed the House of Lords yesterday) and read the clauses which they had procured to be inserted in the Bill, and the Agreement which had been obtained from the Railway Company for the protection of the interests of the Canal Company, and for the interchange of traffic between the Railway and the Canal at Framilode, where the Railway crosses the Canal, and upon which clauses and agreements the opposition of the Canal Company had been withdrawn, and they also read letters upon the subject of the compromise made from M^r J Thornhill Harrison, the Engineer, and Mess^rs Martin & Leslie, the Parliamentary Agents, of the Canal Company.
Resolved that the Committee are much satisfied with the arrangements made, by which they consider they have obtained very favourable terms under all the circumstances, and tender their best thanks to their Solicitor, and M^r Kearsey for the time, trouble, and attention they have so kindly bestowed upon the matter which had conduced to so satisfactory a result, and that the letters of Mess^rs Harrison and Martin & Leslie be entered on the minutes of this Meeting.

"My dear Sir
It is my conviction that the clauses to be inserted in the Severn Junction Railway Bill and the agreement for purchase and demise by Lease for 999 years at a peppercorn rent the land required by the Canal Company for the accommodation of the traffic between the Railway and the Canal are very favourable to the Canal Company, and much more so than it would have been possible for the Canal Company to obtain had they persisted in their opposition to the Bill."
signed John Thornhill Harrison
Copy of Letter from Mess^rs Martin & Leslie:
27 Abingdon S^t Westminster June 30^th 1865
Dear Sir
"We enclose the principal Agreement, and also a copy of the Clauses. We think you have been particularly fortunate in the terms secured by the clauses and agreement. They are much better than we could possibly have hoped for under an opposition in the Committee. We also send the rough heads of Agreement with M^r Wheeler's alterations thereon which you may find useful to refer to."
Signed Martin & Leslie
