addressed to the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigatioon
Canal Office Gloucester 25h Oct 1831
Gent
The Committee of the Gloster & Berkeley Canal, having lately heard by some chance, that the Water which for some time passed been supplied to the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal from Whitminster Brook, passing first into the Stroud Canal, has been prevented by closing the Gates for the last named Canal at Whitminster Lock, whereby the first named Canal is likely to suffer great inconvenience and loss; and the Committee being unconscious of having, by themselves, or any of their Agents or Servants, done, or omitted to do, any act to ? so severe an infliction, desire me respectfully to request that you will be pleased to acquaint them at your earliest convenience, of what the cause was of your issuing the directions which have subjected them to the inconvenience alluded to: and I am desired to assure you that if it rises from any act of the Committee of the Gloucester Canal, or any of their Servants, that is capable of remedy, they will be most ready & willing to do any thing within their power to convince you of the proper sense they have always had of your kind attentions to the interests of their Concern, and anxious to remove any objections you may feel to a continuance of such attentions.
