Messrs Heane & Newman fined £11 2s for false account of their tonnage on vessel Galley on 26 November. Defraud was for 5 tons 11 cwt of goods; fine was £2 a ton.
At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Tuesday the 31^st December 1816
Present: The Rev^d Jos Jones, John Holbrow, Henry Eycott, William Stanton, Thomas Holbrow, Richard Miller, Rowles Scudamore, P H Fisher, John Morgan.
At this Meeting a proof having been made by the Clerk, that Mess^rs Heane & Newman had given a false account of Tonnage by their Vessel the Galley on the 26^th of November last, whereby the Proprietors were defrauded o the Tonnage on 5 Tons 11 Cwt of Goods brought up the Canal by the said Vessel, Ordered that Mess^rs Heane & Newman be fined the Sum of Eleven Pounds & two Shillings for the same offence being after the rate of Two pounds Sterling per Ton on the Goods.
