Summary

Mr C. Sutton and Mr Thomas James Bond claimed shares nos.9,22, will of Hester Sutton.
C Kite of Paganhill be proceeded against for trespass on the towing path near the Oil Mills on 14 June.
A stoppage of the canalto take place on 17 August from 6am until 26 August at 6am and that the inspection of the canal take place on the 24 by a sub-committee (of which 2 will have to be a quorum) consisting of Mr T Marling, Mr Croome, Mr Beard and Captain Fisher, and that any other member of the committee who choose to attend also be invited to do so. Sub-committee to meet at Bonds Mill at 11am.
Committee having considered the long, serious and expensive illness of the surveyor Mr E Peyton which they consider was done during his exertions during his work in the past Winter, presented him with a douceur of £25 towards his expenses.
The tying up of horses and animals engaged on the canal on or near the towing path has become a nuisance. Hand bills to be printed and circulated forbidding the practice.
The stoppage of the towing path took place as follows
June 13th – Wallbridge, Lodgemore, Gas Works, Dudbridge
June 14th – Hilly Orchard, Oil Mills, Stanley Meadow, Ryeford
June 16th – Roving Bridge, Eastington, Westfield, Bengough’s Lane
June 15th – Stonehouse, Stonehouse Wharf, Ocean, Bonds Mill
June 17th – Stonefield Bridge, Wallbridge, Junction, Saul & Framilode.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 21^st day of June 1870
Present: M^r F S Thornton, M^r G H A Beard Chairman, S Phipps, T Marling, T M Croome, J T Fisher, C H Fisher.
M^r C Sutton of Gravel Hill in the Parish of Painswick in the County of Gloucester attended on behalf of himself and M^r Thomas James Bond of Wellington in the County of Somerset Executors under the Will of Hester Sutton of Gravel Hill aforesaid Widow deceased and made out their Claim to 2 Shares numbered respectively 9 & 22 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation and now standing in the name of the said Hester Sutton deceased by producing the Probate of the Will of the said Hester deceased bearing date the 24^th day of October 1868 and proved in the District Registry of her Majesty's Court of Probate at Gloucester on the 19^th day May 1870 and also by the Ticket or Title of N^o 22 and also a Statutory Declaration that the Ticked of N^o 9 has been lost and for which due search had been made but could not be found and the Claim was admitted and new Tickets ordered to be made out.
Resolved that C Kite of Paganhill be proceeded against for trespass on the Towing Path near the Oil Mills on the 14^th of June.
Resolved that the Stoppage of the Canal take place on the 17^th day of August from 6 o'clock AM and end on the 26^th at 6 o'clock AM and that the Inspection of the Canal take place on the 24^th the duties of which it is resolved shall this year be discharged by a SubCommittee only and not by the whole Committee. Such SubCommittee (of whom two shall be a quorum) to consist of M^r T Marling, M^r Croome, M^r Beard and Capt^n Fisher and that any other Member of the Committee who choose to attend also be invited to do so. The SubCommittee to meet at Bonds Mill at 11 o'clock AM.
The Committee having considered the long serious & expensive illness of the Surveyor M^r E Peyton (from which he has but just recovered) and that there is no doubt but that his illness was caused by his exertions during the putting in of the trunk near Lodgemore in the past Winter,
Resolved to present him with a douceur of £25 towards his expenses, and that sum was handed to him by the Chairman accordingly.
The tieing up of horses and animals engaged on this Canal on or near the towing path having become a nuisance,
Resolved that hand bills forbidding the practice be printed and circulated.
