Summary

Letter from Rev H Dombrain of Framilode complaining of men and boys bathing in the canal. Clerk to reply saying the most effective remedy would be to take out a summons against the individuals concerned.
The surveyor Mr Peyton reported that false tonnage had been made of 5 cargoes of road stone brought up the canal by Mr J Rowles, the difference appearing to be 29 tons. Solicitor to apply to Mr Rowles for the difference (14s 6d) and £58 in penalties incurred and that the matter be referred to Mr Croome and Mr Beard to make any terms with Mr Rowles that they may think fit.
Mr Peyton reported that boat Eliza (Captain C. Smith) navigated into the Dock Lock on 28 June without first opening both the bottom gates; G Lewis of the boat Industry and G Bird of the boat Ellen committed the same offence on same day; on 1 July the boat Sisters, Captain William Bird, navigated out of the Dock Lock without opening the bottom gates; on 7 July the Reform, W. Millard captain, allowed the donkeys to stray on the towing path and the boat not properly tied up. Ordered that unless they each pay 5s the full penalty will be enforced against them.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Tuesday teh 26 day of July 1870
Present: M^r F S Thornton, M^r G H A Beard Chairman, J C Hallewell, T M Croome, S Phipps.
A Letter was read from the Rev^d H Dombrain of Framilode complaining of men & boys bathing in the Canal.
Ordered that the Clerk reply to him saying the most simple remedy was to take a summons against the individuals so aggressing.
M^r Peyton the Surveyor reported that false returns had been made of 5 cargoes of Road Stone brought up the Canal by M^r S^l Rowles the difference appearing to be 29 Tons.
Ordered that the Solicitor apply to M^r Rowles for 14^s/6^d difference of Tonnage and for £58 penalties incurred and that it be referred to M^r Croome and M^r Beard to make any terms with M^r Rowles that they may think fit.
M^r Peyton also reported that the Boat Eliza, C Smith Capt'n navigated into the Dock Lock on June 28^th without first opening both the bottom gates and also that G Lewis of the Boat Industry committed the same offence. On the same day G Bird of the Boat Ellen committed the same offence. On July 1^st the Boat Sisters Capt'n W^m Bird navigated out of the Dock Lock without opening the bottom gates. 7^th July the Reform W Millard Capt'n allowed the donkies to stray on the Towing path & the boat not properly laid up. Ordered that unless they each pay 5^s/ cash the full penalty will be enforced on them.
Ordered that the next Committee be held on Tuesday after the 24^th of August next.
