Summary

Inspection took place of the canal from Wallbridge to Eastington and from Eastington to Framilode on the 9 August last and found the buildings, locks, canal and other works to be in good repair.
Company’s Seal to be affixed to both the demises for the premises at Stonehouse Wharf to Mr John Butt and the premises at Dudbridge Wharf to Mr E J Ward.
Mr Scriven, Sergeant of Police at Stonehouse, to take out a summons against Charles Lewis of Ryeford for netting in the canal, if he considers it a clear case.
Mr Mills, the Company’s solicitor, to write to Mr George Long, one of Messrs Ford Bros’ captains, and caution him as a result of his very abusive language to Mr Fallows.
An extra sluice and trunk be put in from Lodgemore Feeder to the Canal as an extra water supply and to secure a supply of water in the event of the present sluice needing repair.
Messrs Butt & Smart, Coal Merchants, attended to ask the Committee to take off the 2 tons put on each boat load of Staffordshire Coal. Clerk to charge for the same weight as passed by the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Co.
A meeting to be called for 10 October to draw cheques for legal expenses incurred in opposing the Thames & Severn Canal Co’s Railway Bill and the Midland Railway Co’s (Additional Powers) Bill in Parliament.
The Committee’s attention was drawn to the drainage of sewerage matter into the Canal at Ebley and Stonehouse: it was understood that the Rural Sanitary Authority were to put in more drains to carry other than surface or pure water into the canal. Instructed that our Clerk write to the Clerk to the Authority to find out if this is the case, and to state that nothing but surface or pure water is allowed to pass through the drains into the canal.

Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 19^th day of September 1882 @ 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr G H A Beard Chairman, Mr C H Hooper, Mr W H Marling, Mr H H Mills, Mr E C Little, Mr Jno Howard, Mr J T Stanton.
Inspection of Canal.
[46] Mr Beard and Mr Mills Inspected the Canal from Wallbridge to Eastington and Mr Beard and Mr Hooper from Eastington to Framilode on the 9^th day of August last, and found the Buildings, Locks, Canal and other works in good repair.
[9] Ordered that the next Committee Meeting be held on Tuesday the 24^th day of October next at 3,o,clock pm and the General Half Yearly Meeting on the same day at 4,o,clock.
[2] The Clerk produced the demise of the premises at Stonehouse wharf between the Company and Mr John Butt and also for the premises at Dudbridge wharf let to Mr E T Ward.
The Company's Seal was ordered to be affixed to each of them which was accordingly done.
[19] The Clerk stated that he had received a report from F Scriven Sergeant of Police at Stonehouse stating that he had caught Charles Lewis of Ryeford netting in the Canal.
Ordered that the Sergeant take out a Summons against Charles Lewis if he considers it a clear case.
[18] The Clerk stated that he had received complaints from the Foreman H Fallows stating that he had received very abusive language from George Long, one of Messrs Ford Bros Captains. Mr Mills the Company's Solicitor was requested to write to him and caution him as to his future conduct to the Officers of the Company in the execution of their duty.
[7] The Clerk stated that he thought it desirable that an extra sluice and trunk should be put in from Lodgemore Feeder to the Canal as an extra water supply, and also to secure a supply of water in case the present sluice should get out of repair.
Ordered that the same be done.
[38] Messrs Butt & Smart Coal Merchants attended and asked the Committee to take off the 2 tons put on some time back on each boat load of Staffordshire Coal.
The question was considered and the Clerk was instructed to charge for the same weight as passed by the Gloucester & Berkley Canal Company.
[45] Ordered that a Meeting be called for the 10^th October next to do through the a/cs with a view to drawing cheques for the payment of Law Expenses incurred in opposing the Thames & Severn Co's (Railway) Bill and the Midland Railway Co's (Additional Powers) Bill in Parliament.
[24] Mr Little drew the attention of the Committee to the drainage of Sewerage matter into the Canal at Ebley and Stonehouse and stated that he understood that the Rural Sanitary Authority was going to put in more drains which would carry other than surface or pure water into the Canal.
The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Warman the Clerk to the Authority asking if such is the case and also to state that nothing but surface of pure water will be allowed to pass through the drains into the Canal.
