The Chairman Mr Little, Messrs Beard, Stanton, Hooper and Davies and Mr Snape made the canal inspection and reported a number of issues requiring special notice. The general state of the Canal and Works, Stores, Bridges, Locks etc was considered very satisfactory.
Clerk to write to Mr Barnard re his inattention to the repair of the boundary wall; also to Mr Gyde, owner and occupier of Ebley House, re his tenant’s use of the canal water, and to Major Chapman suggesting to each their use of the canal water by means of a 2 inch pipe on the annual payment of £1.

[46] The Inspection of the Canal was made (as arranged at the last Meeting) on the 10^th inst by the following Members of the Committee viz: the Chairman (Mr E C Little) Messrs Beard, Stanton, Hooper and Davies -- their Clerk Mr Snape attending also, when the following were the only matters requiring Special notice, and the Committee reported accordingly.
1. The state of the two houses near the Gas Works occupied by Mr Riley and Miss Shilton in which various repairs in papering, painting and plastering were required, and orders were given for executing Such repairs with the addition of providing Some gravel for the front walks of both houses.
2. At Dudbridge wharf it appeared that Mr Barnard had not repaired the boundary wall, according to promise.
3. The iron fence round the Garden at this wharf required gas tarring & this was ordered to be done.
4. On passing in front of Ebley House it was noticed that the Tenant of occupier of the grass land had made a communication under the gravel walk through the Canal Bank in order to supply with water from the Canal a whole of reservoir for the use of Cattle.
5. The roof of the house occupied by Mr C Critchley at Stonehouse wharf being out of order and requiring substantial repair, the Committee recommended its being re-roofed.
6. The Committee suggest permission being given to Major Chapman to take water from the Canal by means of a 2" pipe into his Garden upon payment of the Annual rent of £1.
7. A grating was ordered to be put in the outside wall of the Kitchen of the house at Eastington in the occupation of the Cos Lock Keeper Oliver Sillington in order that the Steam from the boiler may escape without filling the house with steam. Also that the Kitchen be painted and the other rooms papered.
8. Also that the fence round the Coal wharf at Eastington occupied by Mr Z Whiting be repaired and a pear tree in the Garden cut down. Also that the Canal bank be piled where necessary.
9. The Canal Bank near the weir in Framilode pound was observed to have seriously slipped and orders were given for it to be doubly piled (viz) near the top of he bank at the junction of the slip and at the base or bottom of the bank.
The general state of the Canal and Works, Stores, Bridges, Locks, etc, was considered very satisfactory.
The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Barnard as to his inattention to the repair of the boundary wall, also with Mr Gyde (as the owner and occupier of Ebley House) respecting the use made by his Tenant of the water in the Canal, and to Major Chapman to the effect named in the above report suggesting to each their use of the Canal water by means of a 2" pipe on the Annual payment of £1.
