Summary

Contractors for the Stonehouse sewage works had applied for a reduction of one fourth of the charges (amounting to £32 15s 8d) as a result of the stoppage of the canal, which the Committee unanimously declined, the Clerk to reply to this effect and to refer to the repair of the sustaining wall at Eastington.
Future advertising of the half-yearly meeting to be confined to once only in each of the two Stroud papers.
Clerk to find out whether the Rev Palmer wished to continue with permission for the use of a key to open the wharf doors on Sundays, the time of the original permission having elapsed, and to extend the permission accordingly if required.
Committee concluded that the onus of repairing Ebley Bridge and the metalling of the roadway over it lay with Mr Lane as the owner of Ebley Mills, the liability of the Company merely extending to providing a public footpath over or across the canal at that point. It was agreed the matter should be fully considered by the Committee when Mr Lane applied for repair of the roadway over the Bridge.

Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 17^th day of March 1883 at 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr E C Little Chairman, Mr H H Mills, Mr C H Hooper, Mr John Howard, Mr G H A Beard.
[54] A letter to the Clerk from Messrs Ambrose & Son, the Contractors for the Stonehouse Sewage Works was read in which they applied for a reduction on one fourth of the charges (Amounting to £32..15..8) incurred in the Stoppage of the traffic on the Canal in February last. After a short discussion the Committee unanimously declined to entertain the application and instructed the Clerk in replying to this effect to point out the concession made with reference to the repair of the sustaining wall at Eastington.
[9] It was agreed that in future the advertising of the half-yearly meeting should be confined to the two Stroud papers and only one in each of them.
The time having elapsed for which the Rev^d Palmer was allowed the use of a key to open the wharf doors on Sundays, the Clerk was instructed to ask whether he desired a continuance of this permission and to extend it accordingly.
[4] The onus of repairing Ebley Bridge and of metalling the roadway over it whether by Mr Lane as the owner of Ebley Mills or by the Company was considered and the Committee arrived at the conclusion that although they had no means of enforcing the repair by Mr Lane he had no power of throwing the onus on the Company, the liability of the latter merely to extending to that of providing a foot path for the use of the public over or across the Canal at that point. It was agreed that when application was made by Mr Lane for the repair of the roadway over the Bridge, the matter should be fully considered.
