Summary

Thomas Salt MP and John Charles Salt claimed share no.56, will of Mary Salt.
At the invitation of the Chairman, Mr Barnard attended the meeting in respect of his objection to the intended erection of a bridge over the canal at Hilly Orchard in place of the present damaged swing bridge. However, the Committee resolved to stand by their resolution of erecting the new bridge.
Chairman was requested to view the strips of land at Ryeford Mills on the side of the canal coming up for sale by auction and, if he thought advisable, to instruct the Clerk to make a reasonable bid for one or more of them at the auction.
Mr Snape handed in his report on the state of the T&S Canal.

Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 21^st day of July 1885 @ 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr E C Little Chairman, Mr H H Millsm Mr Jno Howard, Mr C H Hooper, Mr A J M Ball, Mr E F Gyde.
[32] Henry Hamilton Mills of Stroud in the County of Gloucester Solicitor attended under a written Authority form Thomas Salt of Weeping Cross in the County of Stafford Esquire MP and John Charles Salt of No 73 Lombard Street in the City of London Esquire, Executors of the Will of Mary Salt late of No 9 Russell Square in the County of Middlesex Spinster deceased (who died on the 13^th day of April 1885) and made out their claim to one share numbered 56 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation and now standing in the name of the said Mary Salt deceased in the Books of the Company of Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation, by producing the ticket or title to the said one Share and the Probate of the Will of the said Mary Salt deceased, the Will bearing date the 25^th day of June 1880, and proved by the said Executors in the Principal Registry f the Probate Division of Her Majestys High Court of Justice on the 6^th day of June 1885.
And the Claim was admitted accordingly and a new ticket ordered to be made out on the ticket or title of the said Mary Salt deceased being delivered up.
[4] Mr Barnard of Ebley attended upon an invitation of the Chairman to express in person his objections to the intended erection of a Bridge over the Canal at Hilly Orchard in substitution of the present decayed Swing bridge. This he did and his objections being combated and shown to be more imaginary than otherwise the Committee resolved upon standing by their resolution of erecting the new Bridge.
[21] Certain strips of land approaching Ryeford Mills and on the sides of this Canal having been advertised for sale by Public Auction, the Chairman was requested to view the same and if he thought advisable to instruct the Clerk to make a reasonable bid for one or more of them at the Auction.
[52] Mr Snape (the Clerk) handed to the Committee his report of the state of the Thames & Severn Canal.
