Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 20^th day of August 1889 @ 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr E C Little Chairman, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr H H Mills, Mr G H A Beard, Mr E P Little, Mr E F Gyde, Mr W^m Davies.
[31] The Clerk reported that a new doorway opening on the Towing path of the Canal had been made by Mr Scarborough of Ebley in the Wall or building of his premises at Ryeford, and the annual charge of 2/6 per Annum was therefore directed to be made upon Mr Scarborough in respect of it.
[46] James Smart of Chalford attended the Committee and complained of a charge of 1/- per ton instead of 9^d in respect of 40 tons of pig iron taken by him to Dudbridge, and also that he was treated unfairly in being charged according to the strict tonnage on some birch planking; after some deliberation by the Committee it was determined that the Chairman should write to Smart on the subject.
[17] The Committee arranged with John Smith of Eastington to give him the use of the house and Garden lately occupied by Mr Fallows free of rent and taxes and to increase his wages from 24/- to 27/- per week in return for which he was to act as working foreman and to take charge of the Company's property there, and to be the General Servant of the Company without recompense for overtime.
[23] The Chairman read a letter he had received from Sir W H Marling on behalf of the Trustees of the Stonehouse Court Estate offering the piece of ground adjoining the Main line of the Midland Railway and containing 3 roods & 26 perches to the Canal Co for £140 subject to the Canal Co fencing it off to the Trustees satisfaction and to a proper contract being prepared by their Solicitor Messrs Winterbotham & Sons, whereupon the Committee (Sir W^m Marling retiring) discussed the matter and feeling that it far exceeded their idea of its value, resolved upon proposing to him that the price to be given should be left to Mr Knowles of Gloucester to decide. This was accordingly done & Sir W^m Marling having consented Mr Hamilton Mills was instructed to arrange with Messrs Winterbotham & Sons for the reference to Mr Knowles.
