Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 15^th day of June 1897 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr H Hamilton Mills Solicitor, Mr A B Hooper, Mr E P Little, Mr W Davies, Mr A J M Ball, Sir W H Marling Bart.
The letter which had been forwarded to the Board of Trade by the Clerk, setting forth the reasons for opposition by this Navigation to the announced application of the Wilts and Berks Navigation for leave to abandon that Canal, was read, as also the formal acknowledgement which had been received from the Secretary.
A report having been received from traders, as to the urgent need for dredging that portion of the Canal between the Junction and Walk Bridge which is the responsibility of the Sharpness Docks Company, the Clerk was directed to write to Mr Waddy on the subject.
The matter of bathing in the Canal was mentioned and the Chairman with Mr W Davies were appointed a Sub-Committee to deal with any proposal to license bathing under proper conditions, especially with reference to the Stonehouse Polo Club, and a proposed Club at Eastington.
The Annual Inspection of the Canal was fixed for Thursday July 8^th leaving Stroud 9.0am and the Clerk was authorised to enquire as to hiring Mr Clark's Steam Launch.
Charles Sutton of Gravel Hill, Stroud in the County of Gloucester, Gentleman attended for and on behalf of and under a written Authority of Thomas Bond of Cottage Farm Eastington Gloucestershire and George Stone of Tonidale Wellington, Somerset Executors of the Will of Thomas James Bond, late of Perry Elm in the Wellington in the County of Somerset deceased (who died on the 8^th day of March 1897) and who at the time of his death had one share in the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation numbered 22 and made out his claim to the said one share now standing in the name of the said Thomas James Bond deceased in the Books of the Company of Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation by producing the ticket or title to the said one share and the Probate of the Will of the said Thomas James Bond deceased, the said Will bearing date the 25^th day of May 1895 and proved by the said Executors in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of her Majesty's High Court of Justice on the 20^th day of May 1897 and the claim was admitted accordingly and a new ticket or title ordered to be made out on the ticket or title of the said Thomas James Bond being delivered up.
