The Clerk reported a communication from W Tudor, tenant at Whitminster Wharf, agreeing "to pay all expenses" for re-opening doorway (vide fol 261 & 263) and replace it if required. The work had been done.
The Chairman called attention to an agreement bearing dat January 1, 1807, under which it appeared that the Company is discharged for ever from all responsibility for the "Ebley Bridge", in consideration of a sum of money paid at that time to William Read owner of adjoining premises. The matter of the easements contemplated (fol 262) was in consequence referred to the Company's Solicitor (vide Minutes Aug 19 1806 & January 5^th 1808).
The Agreement with Mr Lambourn for his tenancy of the Wallbridge Warehouse was read and approved, and the Clerk was directed to obtain his signature. It was decided to erect for his convenience a two stall Stable & Chaff-room on the Wharf - the details to be further considered.
The Agreement with Mr Rechab Wood sighed by him, was presented to the Committee by the Clerk, sanctioning his use of the walls at Wallbridge and Dudbridge for Bill posting. It was remarked that the Agreement reserved no control to the Company over the character of the Bills exhibited, and the Clerk was desired to give him a caution on this particular.
The completed deed, under which the improvement of 'Gas House Lane' has been carried out by the Stroud Urban District Council and the Stroud Gas Company, was presented. The Clerk reported that the improvement to the 'Gradient' remained yet to be completed.
The Clerk reported that since the recent alterations in the neighbourhood of the Companys Cottages near Gas House Lane, their hitherto unfailing spring of water had disappeared, and he proposed to connect them with the District main, which had now been brought to their boundary wall. It was decided to obtain an estimate of the cost and to leave the decision, if necessary, to the discretion of the Chairman.
The Clerk reported the necessity of some repairs to the Gas House Swing Bridge, and that he proposed to strengthen it so as to make it go on for the present.
The Clerk reported Mr Taylor of Eastington two months in arrears with his rent, and a serious complaint from Mr Whiting, the adjoining Tenant, as to his trespass besides a nuisance in the Company's Yard. It was decided to give him a months notice to quit from September 25^th.
The Clerk presented a communication from the Stroud Gas Company shewing that their Trow "Reliance" had been detained at the Junction from Friday August 19 until Wednesday morning August 23 - 3½ days. He also reported a reply from the Engineer of the Sharpness Docks Company regretting the shortness of water which had occasioned the complaint, and pointed out that "the only real remedy will be to put your gates (Whitminster) in working order".
