Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 18^th day of September 1900 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr H Hamilton Mills Solicitor, Mr P J Evans, Mr E P Little, Mr A B Hooper, Mr S S Marling, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr W J Stanton, Mr W Davies.
Ordered that the next Committee Meeting be held on Tuesday the 23^rd October @ 3 o'clock pm and the Half-Yearly Meeting on the same day at 3.30.
The Clerk reported the new Framilode Top Gates completed and fixed, and the Saul Bridge re-planked. The Pier-Wall at Framilode he recommended to be repaired with concrete, which was sanctioned. The Top Gates at the 'Junction Lock' had been duly repaired by the Sharpness Docks Company. At Eastington, the fence and gate noted by the recent Survey, between the Yard and land occupied by Mr Whiting, as requiring repair, had been attended to. The Bottom Gates at Dudbridge had been sufficiently strengthened for the present, and the new ones were in course of preparation. Ebley Bridge had been re-stoned and repaired.
Another instance of difficulty, in getting up the 'Bristol Road' reach, by the 'Reliance', in consequence of the dropping of the level of the water in the Sharpness Canal had been recently reported.
Mr Taylor, tenant of the Company's House at Eastington, had asked for assistance toward painting and repapering the sitting-room. It was agreed to allow him not exceeding Twenty shillings, when done to the Clerks satisfaction.
Mr Sibly of Stonehouse having demurred at the usual charge of Half a crown for water taken from the Canal for his garden, it was decided that the Clerk write him thereon as the Chairman shall dictate.
The Clerk reported a correspondence with the Manager of the Stafford and Worcester Canal C^o as to a railway Siding making to the Colliery of Messrs Hawkins & Son over the property of that Company. It appeared that the right was only by 'Way Leave' and that it would not affect the canal traffic at all.
The Company's Caretaker at Wallbridge Frank Bassett reported a trespass on the Canal at Lodgemore, on the night of August 4 by men netting fish, his having been assaulted in his endeavour to secure them. He was interviewed by the Committee, and one of the men - Frederick Smith - employed at the Gas Works came before them, but the evidence obtained did not appear sufficient to make a conviction probable.
The details of the claim for Income Tax for the year by the Surveyor, were submitted by the Clerk, and, with one slight exception, were considered correct, the amount payable being £26..17..0,
The Chairman of the Thames and Severn Canal Trust (Sir W H Marling Bart) requested a Cheque, as soon as convenient, for this Companys contribution, under the Act. and it was agreed that a Cheque should be drawn as early as possible, consistently with the practice of this Company in the arrangement of the accounts for the current Half-Year.
Cheques drawn:
W J Snape: 37..10..0
W Fredericks: 6..10..0
[Total] £44..0..0
