Letter from General Manager of Sharpness Docks Co. 7 June. Company to grant through rate on coal to Cirencester, similar to that on stone. Reduction from 1s to 9d, inviting Stroudwater Navigation to reduce toll of 4d to 3d. Whole toll to be paid at Birmingham. Stroudwater Navigation proportion to be remitted by cheque monthly.
Through rate for coal from Staffordshire to Cirencester of 2s 9½d, a reduction of 1d on present rate of 4d on this canal agreed for remainder of year.
Mr Snape reported interview with Mr F A Jones, Engineer of Sharpness Docks Co, on alterations to the Shallow Lock. Changes approved.
Lodgemore culvert, long in precarious condition, had given way. Mr Snape to provide materials for its complete repair and to arrange stoppage of canal when most convenient.
Application by Mr Barnard of Ebley for leave to cross Ebley Bridge with a ¾ inch water pipe agreed. 5s per annum paid in advance.
Mr T F Williams of Eastington to pay 5s per month and lockage for keeping steam launch on canal.
Clerk to give John Potter three months’ notice to quit house near Gas Works Bridge. Irregular with rent. After September may be renewed on monthly footing.
Repayment by County Council of cost of dredging canal near Ship Inn £3 15s.
Gas Co had not availed themselves of convenience of canal for conveyance of new heavy main pipes, laid through Company premises or for other heavy plant. Chairman to write to Secretary of Gas Co. Anxiety to place full facilities at their service.
[1904 June] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 21^st day of June 1904 @ 3'o'clock pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr F A, Mr E Little, Mr E Palling Little, Mr H Hamilton Mills, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr F S Whittingham Solicitor in attendance.
[Through rate on coal Staffordshire to Cirencester] A letter was read from the General Manager of the Sharpness Docks Company of June 7 stating that that Company had decided to grant a through Rate on Coal to Cirencester, (similar to that already granted on _stone_) which involved to them a reduction from 1^s/- to 9^d and inviting the Stroudwater Navigation to join in that Rate by reducing their toll of 4^d to 3^d, the whole toll to be paid at Birmingham, and the Stroudwater Navigation proportion to be remitted by Cheque monthly. As result of consideration of this proposal the following Resolution was unanimously passed.
That the through rate for Coal from Staffordshire to Cirencester of 2^s/9½^d which involves the reduction of 1^d on the present rate of 4^d on this Canal be agreed to for the remainder of this year (1904) as a trial to be reconsidered at the end of the year.
[Interview with Mr F A Jones respecting alterations to the Shallow Lock] Mr Snape reported an interview, on the spot, with Mr F A Jones Engineer of the Sharpness Docks Company respecting the details of the alterations to the Shallow Lock and produced a memorandum prepared by Mr Jones and at Mr Jones request, the Chairman by authority of the Committee signed the same as "approved".
[Lodgemore Culvert] It having been reported that the "Lodgemore Culvert" which has long been in a precarious condition had at last given way, Mr Snape was directed to _provide the materials_ for its _complete_ repair in case such should be found necessary on the same construction as at present and to arrange the needful stoppage of the Canal as may be most convenient with reference to other works in prospect.
[Mr Barnard application for leave to cross Ebley Bridge with a ¾' pipe] An applications by Mr Barnard of Ebley for leave to cross Ebley Bridge with a ¾^in water pipe, was agreed to, a proper agreement to be prepared and signed by him before the work is entered on. The charge to be 5^s/ per annum paid in advance and 3 months notice.
[Mr Williams Eastington - boat on Canal] Mr T F Williams of Eastington having enquired the charge (monthly) for keeping a steam launch on the Canal the Clerk was directed to name 5^s/ per month besides lockage.
[John Potter notice to quit cottage at Downfield] The Clerk was instructed to give John Potter 3 months notice to quit his house near the Gas Works Bridge (as he has been irregular with his Rent) with the purpose that if he wishes to continue his tenancy after September it may be renewed on a monthly footing.
[Dredging Canal payment of £3:15:0 by CC] The Clerk reported the repayment by the County Council of the cost of dredging the Canal near the Ship Inn _£3:15:0_ vide Minute page 373. {No7.}
[Gas Company trade on Canal] The Chairman having mentioned that the Gas Company had not availed themselves of the convenience of the Canal for conveyance of their new heavy main pipes, laid through the Companys premises, or for other heavy plant required by them, it was suggested he should write to the Secretary of the Gas Company and draw their attention to this Company's anxiety to place its _full_ facilities at their service.
