[1907 November] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 20^th day of November 1907 @ 4.15pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr E Palling Little, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr W J Stanton, Mr A J Morton Ball
Mr Whittingham, Solicitor, in attendance.
[Weighing Machine Stonehouse Wharf] The Clerk reported that on October 28, the iron plate on the new Weighing Machine at Stonehouse Wharf as to which he had complained to the makers Messrs Bartlett & C^o, as being originally faulty was, as proposed by them, broken, in the presence of their Representative, to decide the point. They had accepted the proof, and had replaced the plate with a new one, carriage free. Some charges against them incurred in the test (16/6) to which they objected, the Committee agreed to waive. These included a payment to Mr R J Lugg, Ironfounder,of Brimscombe, who had rendered good service on the occasion as an Expert and had also given a written report thereon.
[Wall Ryeford] Mr S S Marling's reply to the Chairman promising attention to the wall at the Ryeford Cottages was read, and was confirmed by Sir W H Marling.
[Escape of Gas Dudbridge] The Clerk submitted a report he had made, on a dangerous escape of gas into the Company's House at Dudbridge occupied by Mr & Mrs Tyler, from an injured main of the Gas Company, in October, which had been promptly put right.
[Ice Boat] He reported five Bridges recently painted, and six others seriously repaired. The Ice-Boat requiring a little repair, Mr Gardiner of Bourne Dock had undertaken to examine it.
[Fishing in Canal H Terrell Esq] The Chairman read a letter of the 9^th inst addressed to the Clerk, by Henry Terrell Esq, KC, Lincoln's Inn, London (introduced by M W Colchester Wemyss Esq) respecting the fishing in the Canal from 'Bristol Road' to Framilode the Rent of which he proposed to guarantee on behalf of the Gloucester Fishing Club.
It appearing from it that the exclusion of _Sunday_ fishing under the Company's regulations, does not meet his view, the Committee unanimously agreed to the following, on the proposal of the Chairman:
"The established rule and practice of the Stroudwater Navigation is to keep the Canal Closed to fishing on Sundays and while they are sorry to disappoint Mr Terrell, they cannot entertain any proposal to deviate from it."
This was clearly expressed in the Minute of the Committee, at the time it was originally suggested that a proposal might be made to rent the fishing (Feb ''07 p.71), The Clerk was directed to forward a copy of this to Mr Terrell, accompanied by a letter, acknowledging is offer, and further saying that if, _with_ this condition he found the £15..- for the year too much, the Committee would be willing to make it, _for the six days right_, £12 (Twelve Pounds).
