Summary

Mr F A Little with Mr Davies reported on visit to place at Stonehouse where Telephone Co wished to erect fresh poles. Permission undesirable. In view of action taken by Mr Winterbotham, owner of land by canal there, matter to remain in abeyance.
Stroud Gas Co applied for supply of water to fill a new gas holder tank. Granted on payment of 8d per 1000 gallons or £50.
Letter from Saul Parish Council re tidal gate at Framilode. Matter to be looked into at Annual Inspection of canal.
Letter from Mrs F Grafton claiming compensation for injury in consequence of Lodgemore Bridge being out of order.
Expected extraordinary traffic by use of traction engines between Stonehouse and Dursley. Metalling of canal bridges would be affected. Clerk to write to contractor.

[1909 May] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 19^th day of May 1909 @ 3.30pm
Present: Philip J Evans, H Hamilton Mills, F A Little, Walter J Stanton, F S Whittingham, A J Morton Ball.
[Property at Dudbridge] The Clerk reported that the property at Dudbridge which had been vacant for some time was still unlet.
[Motor Acts] The Notice required to be placed on Bridges under the new Motor Acts was again considered and the wording agreed upon the the Thames & Severn Canal Committee read but it was decided to let it stand over for the present.
[Mr J Smart] The question between the Navigation and Mr James Smart respecting the use of Dock at Eastington was referred to but in the absence of Mr E P Little who had undertaken to discuss the matter with Mr Smart was left for next Committee Meeting.
[Nat Tel C^o] Mr F A Little reported having visited with Mr W Davies the place at Stonehouse where the Telephone C^o wished to erect fresh poles and he was of opinion that it was very undesirable that permission should be granted but in view of the action taken by Mr Winterbotham - the owner of the land by the Canal there - it was decided to let the matter remain in abeyance pro tem.
[Stroud Gas C^o] The Stroud Gas C^o having applied for a supply of water to fill a new Gas Holder Tank it was agreed that it should be granted on payment of 8^d per 1000 gallons, or say £50 assuming the quantity required to be 1,500,000 gallons.
[Saul Parish Council Stop Gate at Framilode] In answer to a letter received from the Saul Parish Council re the tidal Gate at Framilode the Clerk was instructed to reply that the matter should be looked into at the forthcoming Annual Inspection of the Canal.
[Lodgemore Bridge damage by Mr Smart's boat] It was reported that the Swing Pole Post of the Lodgemore Bridge had been broken off by Mr Smarts Boat the "Brothers" in November last and the question of a claim on Mr Smart for 12/7 (being half the cost) was discussed and it was to be left to Mr E P Little to try and settle it amicably.
Mrs F Grafton claim re Lodgemore Bridge] A letter from a Mrs F Grafton was produced and read in which she claimed compensation for injury alleged to be sustained in consequence of the Lodgemore Bridge being out of order. Mr Snape was instructed to see the applicant and repot to next Committee obtaining from her a written statement of her claim.
[Extraordinary Traffic over Bridges] Respecting the expected extraordinary Traffic by use of Traction Engines between Stonehouse and Dursley it was pointed out that the metalling of the Canal Bridges would thereby be affected and the Clerk was to write to the Contractor on the subject.
[Canal Inspection] Mr Whittingham agreed, and Mr Hooper was asked to undertake the Annual Inspection from Framilode to Eastington and Mr F A Little and Mr Evans promised to inspect the portion of the Canal from Eastington to Stroud.
