Present: Philip Jas Evans, Walter J Stanton, Jack Margetson, F S Whittingham, W^m Davies.
[Clerks report] The Clerk reported:-
[Stonehouse Swing Bridge] 1 That he had written to Messrs Vowles & C^o respecting the repairs to the Swing Bridge accepting their offer of £5..- towards the cost of repairing the Bridge and strengthening it but that the Navigation could not take any responsibility and advising Messrs Vowles to test the Bridge with 'Dead Weights' before taking heavy traffic across.
Messrs Vowles had replied agreeing to this.
[Ryeford Wharf] 2 That no reply had been received from Mr Brunsdon respecting the placing of his wagons on the Company's Wharf at Ryeford.
[Double Lock Cottages] 3 The Repairs at Double Locks Cottage were well in hand.
[Culvert near Walk Bridge] Further correspondence with Mr Clifford's Agent regarding the Culvert near Walk Bridge was produced and read. Mr Snape reported that he had inspected the Culvert and had it examined by Mr Boulton of Saul and there was no stoppage but the bed appeared to be out of level causing the water to stand at that spot. There was no necessity to do anything further.
[Ditch at Newtown] Mr Whittingham stated that he had drafted a letter to Mr Stuart the Clerk of the Wheatenhurst District Council as to the Nuisance alleged to exist from the ditch at Newtown and the reply received from Mr Stuart was produced and read - as there appeared to have been local cases of Diptheria which might conceivably have arisen from the effluvium from the Ditch Mr Snape had been advised to clean it out & this had been put in hand but the Committee after discussion decided that Messrs Godsell & C^o & Mr Truscott should be called upon to desist from turning the sewage into the Ditch & so on into the Canal ultimately.
[Gloucester Harbour Board] The Chairman was appointed to represent the Navigation upon the Gloucester Harbour Board. Mr Snape called attention to the need for putting the Banks of Canal in order and was instructed to get and use the necessary timber.
