Mr Whittingham stated that negociations had taken place as to the amount of compensation to be paid by Smith & Sons Ltd for the loss of the License of the Ship Inn but no agreement had been reached so far.
The Chairman reported that M^r Whittingham had been with him to Gloucester and there - with M^r Gardom representing the Thames & Severn Canal - had met M^r Foster M^r Hamilton Mills and M^r Waddy and discussed the notice given by the Sharpness New Docks C^o that they intend raising he charge for use of Berkeley Canal & Tip from 1½^d to 3^d per Ton.
It was stated that no Agreement had been possible as the Sharpness Company insisted that the proportions received hitherto by their Company and the Stroudwater Navigation C^o were unfair to the former.
The matter was left to the Chairman and M^r Whittingham to arrange and they were authorised to agree to a charge of 2^d rather than risk having to go to arbitration.
Applications to rent the Ship Inn had been received from M^r G J Fifield and M^r Lee of Bridge Street Nailsworth who expressed his willingness to take the premises on a lease.
Mr Whittingham undertook to negociate the matter with M^r Lee.
Mr Snape had written the General Post Office and received a reply that as soon as the A/cs for Way-leaves had been agreed the amount would be remitted.
Mr Snape informed the Committee that repairs had become needful to the Lodgemore Swing Bridge and he was instructed to proceed with same.
The stone Traffic from Rowley Regis was about to be commenced and was expected to reach 4000 Tons during the Season.
