Present: Philip Jas Evans, W^m Davies, F A Little, S S Marling, W R Bloxam, Edward P Little.
The minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed.
With reference to a forthcoming sale of land adjoining the Canal at Whitminster the advertisement of which appeared to ignore the Company's rights to the banks of the Canal there Mr Bloxam had written to the Solicitor for the Vendor and had received a reply admitting the Company's rights and promising to make them known to intending purchasers.
A letter from the Secretary of the Docker's Union at Gloucester was read and it was decided to reply acknowledging receipt of same and thanking them for suggestion therein which would receive the full consideration of the Committee early as possible.
The question was discussed of the advisability of getting the Government to take the Canal under its Control as in the case of the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal and the Clerk reported an interview he had had with Mr Manning Lewis the Manager of that Company who had kindly given the information needed and undertaken to use his good offices to this end with Mr Sidney Preston Chairman of the Canal Control Committee on the occasion of his visit to the Berkeley Canal on Wednesday July 2^nd. The users of both the Stroudwater & Thames & Severn Canal had with great unanimity made strong representation to the Company in favour of the Canal being controlled and thus kept available for the traffic of the district. In view of this the Committee decided accordingly to make the necessary application.
The next meeting was to be on the 17^th September next.
