Canal Office Augt 12th 1864
Mr W B Clegram
Dr Sir You will oblige me by informing how many Sacks of Wheat the Gloucester & Brekeley Canal Co allow Traders to carry on their Canal to the Ton. On the 30 Augt[sic] the Wherry a Vessel belonging to Mr Wm Lane G Clark Capt brought a cargo of sundries from Gloucester on your Canal as per statement on other side. Burbidge did not examine the G&Berkely Canal Co Ticket but only took Clark's word for what he entered upon the S N Cos Ticket. Hamlet has to countersign this Ticket after Burbidge made it out, & altho' doing so he allowed it to pass without correcting the erroneous entry as shown upon our Ticket. I have been informed your Co allow 9 sacks to the Ton - permit me to ask if this be correct if so, this would account for the difference in the Weight of the Wheat as this Co allow 10 but there is also a difference in each of the other entries which I cannot account for.
You will oblige me by sending me a copy of your Cos entry of this Ticket to show my Comte who meet on the 20th Inst.
