At a Special General Meeting of the Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Canal Office at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 10^th day of April 1832
Henry Wyatt Esquire in the Chair.
Read the public Advertisement calling the Meeting - and the Circular Letter addressed by the Company's Clerk to the various Proprietors announcing the same.
Read the Minutes of the General Meeting of the 28^th Day of October 1829 permitting the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company to take the Water from the River Froome near the Whitminster Mill through the Navigation for the Supply of their Canal during the pleasure of the Company.
Read the Minutes of the last Special General Meeting of the 15^th Day of December 1831 on the Subject of the proposed Act of Parliament about to be applied for by the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company for carrying into effect an Agreement for taking and renting the Water of the said River by the said Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company and for conveying the same through the Stroudwater Navigation for Ninety Nine Years subject to proper Clauses of Regulation and Protection.
Read the Minutes of the last Committee Meeting of the second Instant ordering this Meeting to be called.
And it having been reported that a Bill had been prepared on the part of the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company for the above Object - But that hty had since been compelled to abandon the Clauses for Carring into Effect the Agreement made with M^R Cambridge and M^r Purnell for taking and renting the said Water.
Several Letters from various Proprietors having been read expressing their Sentiments on the Subject.
Resolved that in the Opinion of this Meeting no Consent should be given to any Legislative Engagement for the passing of the Water through this Navigation unless those Enactments embraced als the taking and renting of the Water and the Clauses for Indemnity of all injured Parties.
And the said Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company having since requested the Company to permit the taking of the Water thought the Navigation under some Agreement of other Instrument in Writing for the Term of Ninety Nine Years,
Resolved that our Consent be given to the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company to take the Water through the Navigation for any Term of Years by an Obligatory Instrument on the Part of the Company.
But it is resolved that this Company do continue to give to the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company Permission to take the Water during the Pleasure of this Company in the manner as was permitted by the Resolutions of the said General Meeting of the Twenty Eighth Day of October 1829 by means of such Works and at such Place and under such Regulations as the Committee of the Navigation shall determine upon in Concert with the said Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company.
Ordered that the Company's Clerk do forthwith communicate the Result of this Meeting to M^r Wilton the Solicitor to the said Bill.
