[1940 Sept] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 18^th day of September 1940 at 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, G A Evans.
There being only three Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Gloucester Corporation, Water pipes across the Canal at Whitminster, Saul & Framilode
The Chairman stated that the Navigations Seal had been affixed to the Agreement in the presence of himself and the Clerk and returned to the Town Clerk. There was nothing further to report.
Bristol Road Bridge Damage
A letter in the terms of last Minute had been sent to the Insurance Company. The Clerk reported an interview he had had with the Insurance Company's representative at Wallbridge on the 17^th September when he had offered £10 to the Navigation in settlement of claim for the removal of the debris from the Canal. The Committee refused to accept this and stood out for £25. The Chairman undertook to settle the letter to the Insurance Company.
Gas House Bridge, Replacement
The Clerk reported that the bridge had been replaced, and that he had submitted an account to the Gas Company in accordance with the Navigations letter of the 16^th May and the Gas Company's letter of 3^rd June. The Chairman read a letter from the Gas Company which was discussed. The Chairman undertook to settle a letter for the Clerk to sent to the Gas Company. The Clerk stated that the actual cost of the replacement of the bridge had not yet been ascertained.
Blunder Lock - Damaged by Enemy Action, Upper Gates and Lock Wall
The work of repair and replacement of the Gates was in hand. The necessary licence from the Ministry for the purchase of the timber had not yet been received. Certain information had been sent to the Ministry as requested. As far as is known no Inspection of the site has been made on behalf of the Ministry.
Lock-house at Eastington, Roof repairs
The Clerk reported that the work was in hand.
Canal at Whitminster, M^rs Best: Water from the Canal (Parklands Estate)
It was agreed to allow Mrs Best to take water from the Canal subject to a yearly rent of £5..5..0, and the Company's Agreement, the cost of which she would have to pay.
Canal Office at Wallbridge, Kitchen Grate
It was reported that the grate had been fixed. The Committee inspected it.
Wharfhouse at Wallbridge: Roof repair, M^r Lee tenant
The tenant had complained that the roof was out of order. The Clerk was authorized to have the necessary repair carried out.
Wharf at Wallbridge: M^r Hopson
The Clerk reported that M^r Hopson had sub-let a portion of the ground included in his tenancy to the Stroud Brewery C^o. There was no objection.
M^r Parker's field, Whitminster
The Clerk reported slight soakage from the Canal. The Committee directed this to be seen to when the Company's men are available.
Wharfhouse at Dudbridge, Mr Wiggall
A letter from M^r Wiggall offering to take the house if & when it became void. This was agreed to at same rent.
