Summary

Ministry of Supply at Bristol authorized by District Valuer regarding charges to Hoffman Gloucester Ltd.
Chairman and G W Morton Ball inspected Framilode Stop Gate dam on 2 September and found everything satisfactory.

[1941 Sept] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 17^th day of September 1941 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, G A Evans, R J C Little.
There being only four Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Bristol Road Bridge, Damage
The Chairman stated that there was nothing further to report.
Gashouse Bridge, Messrs Mowlem & Coy, Damage
The Chairman undertook to settle a letter for the Clerk to sent to Messrs Mowlem.
Hoffman Gloucester Ltd, Stonehouse, re pipes to Canal at Stonehouse
In accordance with Minute of last Meeting the Chairman had settled a letter for the Clerk to send to Messrs Hoffman. The Chairman read a letter from the District Valuer stating the he had been instructed to open negotiations with the Company, and that M^r Walrond of his Office would be prepared to attend the Canal Office on the 17^th inst, and he had been written to asking him to attend at 3.30, the Chairman reported that since then a representative of the Ministry of Supply, Bristol, had called at the Canal Office and stated that he was authorised to negotiate instead of the District Valuer, and would put his offer in writing. In view of this the Chairman presumed that the District Valuer would not be calling. Notwithstanding this however the District Valuer attned with M^r Walrond and Messrs Hoffman's Clerk of Works. A general discussion took place but in view of action taken by the Ministry of Supply (Bristol) the Committee considered that the matter should stand over awaiting communication in writing from the Ministry of Supply.
Framilode Stop Gate, Dam
The Chairman reported that he had in company with M^r G W Morton Ball inspected the work on the 2^nd September and that all seemed satisfactory. A letter from M^r Ball was read stating he was on his way to Torquay and that he would not be able to attend the meeting. He had again visited Framilode and everything looked very satisfactory.
Stroud Gas Company: Pipe to Canal, Gas Works
The Chairman stated that an Agreement had been come to with the Gas Company under which the Gas Company have agreed to pay £60 rent per annum subject to a signed Agreement, which was having attention.
Strachan & Coy Ltd, Windows
It was reported that Messrs Strachan & Coy did not now require an easement for windows as previously asked for.
Framilode Swing Bridge - Repairs
The Clerk reported that this Bridge had been repaired.
M^r Marlings letter re Meetings
The Chairman read a letter which he had received from Mr Marling and it was decided to reply accepting his resignation with regret.
Dudbridge Wharf, J & H B Jackson Ltd, Tenancy
A letter from Jackson was read respecting their tenancy of the Wharf. It was noted their lease expired on the 24^th January 1943.
Ministry of Mines, Stonehouse Wharf, Tenancy
The Chairman stated that the matter being urgent he had arranged with the Ministry of Mines to rent a portion of Stonehouse Wharf at £3..12..0 per annum for the storage of coal for winter supplies for the Rural Area. An agreement between the ? had been signed.
South Regional Canal Committee, Minutes
The Clerk produced the Minutes of a Meeting held at Gloucester on the 4^th September which he had attended.
Ministry of Works, Bristol, re Canal
The Clerk reported a telephone conversation he had had with the Ministry at Bristol. It was decided to await their written communication which they had promised.
The Essential Work (General Provisions) Order 1941
The Chairman read two letters dated 15^th and the 17^th September from the Chairman of the South-Western Canal Committee. After discussion the Committee decided tha M^r Lisle be informed that the Committee considered it would be useless for them to apply to the Ministry of War Transport to have the Canal Scheduled owing to the present condition of the waterway from siltage, weeds, etc, and to mention that when M^R Frank Pick called here some months ago he agreed that the undertaking was not in a condition to be of any service, further that none of the employees is a member of any Union, and that in view of the condition of the waterway, no additional men would be required, unless the Government considered desirable to put same in proper condition.
