At a General Half Yearly Meeting of the Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the George Inn Stroud on Thursday the 17^th day of April 1837
P H Fisher Esq^r in the Chair.
The Minutes of the last General Meeting were Read & conformed. The several Books & Accounts of the Company were produced (as directed by Act of Parliament) and were examined and confirmed.
It appears by the Accounts that the Sum of £3054..8..4 has been received for Tonnage, etc, from the 12^th Day of October 1836 to the 12^th day of April Instant, a part of which has been applied towards the payment of Wages Disbursments, etc, and there remains in the Treasurers Hands (after paying the last Dividend) the Sum of £2641..14..3.
Ordered that a Dividend of Thirteen Pounds be paid on each Share by the Treasurers on the 1^st Day of May next; and that our Clerk do transmit circular Letters to all the Proprietors to inform them that they may draw upon the Treasurers or apply to them for payment of the same.
The following Gentlemen are appointed a Committee for the ensuing Year, viz:
Mess^rs W^m Cosham, T C Croome, D^r Darke, Mess^rs S Fisher, Joseph F Fisher, Fred Eycott, P H Fisher, John Holbrow, W^m Wood, George Wathen, Henry Wyatt, W J Stanton, Henry Beard.
In consequence of the necessity of Repairs to the Lock at Bristol Road, the Water in the Bristol Road Level must be drawn out, which is intended to be done on or about the 15^th day of May next; and to avoid the necessity of drawing the Water of our Lower Level, in order to effect this - The Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company (by Captain Glegram their Engineer) have applied to this meeting - and have requested permission for them (at their Expense) to draw off the Water of the Bristol Road Level by cutting a passage for the same through the south bank of our Navigation, at a place a little above the Whitminster Lock, and conducting the water through M^r Cambridges Land (of whom he has obtained permission so to do) into the Rein ditch there; and they have also requested permission to put a Coffer dam in the Whitminster Lock a little above the lower pair of Gates there - and thereby to make them to feed their Canal, as usual, through the lower level, during our operations, and so to prevent the necessity of drawing off the Water from the lower level. - And they having proposed & undertaken to restore the Navigation bank, and properly to puddle the same, to remove the Coffer dam, & all soil & silt and to repair any damage done by them, when thereto requested -
Ordered that the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company be permitted to Cut our the Water & put in the Coffer Dam as requested, on their Undertaking to restore the Bank, remove the dam, soil, silt, etc, as requested - But this permission is expressly declared to be understood as not to be drawn into precedent.
M^r Cha^s Harrison having requested some Land to be allowed him to be used as a Wharf for his exclusive use & proposed to accept the Western End of the Garden near the Anchor -
Ordered that the same be referred to the following Gentlemen, as a Sub-Committee to determine the same and after as to a Bridge to be built across the Brook there, viz: M^r Wyatt, M^r Cosham & M^r Jos F Fisher.
