At a Special Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Wednesday the 2^nd day of January 1839
Present: M^r Cosham, M^r Hughes, M^r Holbrow, M^r Wyatt, M^r Beard, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r P H Fisher.
Read the letter of Mess^rs Osborn, Ward & Sons, Sol^rs to the Bristol & Gloucestershire Extension Railway company requesting us to state whether we assent dispute or are neuter in relation to the Bill intended to be presented to the Parliament in the ensuing Session for making the said Railway: also inspected the plans and section deposited with the Clerk of the parish of Stonehouse:-
Resolved that we dissent from such intended Act, and that our Clerk do reply to Mess^rs Osborne Ward & Sons expressing our dissent accordingly; but that our Clerk do inclose the letter conveying the dissent of this Company, in a letter, in which he shall request them to furnish our Company with a copy of their Bill, (addressed to him, or our Sol^r) with such explanations of the plan of passing our Canal & towing path and such other explanations as they may see fit to communicate, in order for us to determine how far we shall enter into any active opposition thereto.
Ordered that our Clerk do pay James Giles Mason his Bill 25^£..18^s..6^d.
Ordered that 140 feet of Elm (cubit) be purchased of M^r Clutterbuck for the use of the Navigation.
