Summary

Annual inspection on board Company’s barge.
Stroud level wants mudding in several places.
Crown of the Roving Bridge, immediate repair on lower side.
Iron work of bridge leading to Stonehouse Mill to be repaired. Bridge to be painted to accommodate Davises.
Bushes and trees on banks of canal to be removed. Basham to trim and cut them, lops to be given to proprietors of adjoining land.
Breast of lower pair of Double Locks when convenient.
Masonry work to be done at first of 5 Locks.
Geo Basham to keep canal, roads. wharfs, roads over bridges in repair for £110 for three years.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held on board the Company's Barge on Tuesday the 20^th day of August 1839
Present: M^r P H Fisher, M^r Holbrow, M^r Sma^l Fisher, M^r Beard, M^r Geo Wathen, M^r Martin, M^r Rob Hughes, M^r Eycott, M^r Jos^h Fisher, M^r Cosham.
The Committee proceeded from Walbridge to Framiload on a Tour of Inspection.
The Stroud level wants mudding in several places.
The Crown of the Roving Bridge wants immediate Repair on the lower side. The Iron work of the Bridge leading to Stonehouse Mill having started, to be repaired, & probably best by inserting a few new planks & fastening the Iron Work to them; and that the Bridge be painted, to accomodate the Davises. The Bushes & Trees growing in the bansks of Canal must be removed. Ordered Basham to trim and cut them & the laps to be given to the proprietors of the adjoining Land who are willing to remove them. Locks. The breast of the lower pair of the double Locks when convenient. Masonry work to be done on the first Lock of the 5 Locks.
George Basham having proposed to keep the Canal and the Roads, Wharfs, & the Roads over the Bridges in repair and to do all the other work engaged by his present contract, for the sum of £110 per Annum. Ordered that his offer be accepted & the term extended to three years beyond the expiration of his present contract the 31^st Instant.
The lower Wal of Westfield Bridge under the Coping to be repaired.
Ordered that the following Gentlemen be a sub Committee to take into consideration the Office of the Clerk to this Company, with a prospective view to the future vacancy in the same; and to report thereon to the General Committee: suggesting any alterations which in that event may appear to them desirable to be made in the duties of that Office; the number of persons proper to perform those duties; the residence of the Clerk or Clerks and the Salary or Salaries; with any other plan which may seem to them desirable to be adopted for a more efficient inspection of the Canal and the trafic thereon; and generally what may be desirable to be adopted in the management of the Canal and the concerns thereof. Viz:
Mess^rs Cosham, Holbrow, Hughes, P H Fisher, Wathen.
Ordered that Trunks be provided for the Aqueduct near Lockham Bridge, preparatory to the operation of cleaning the Mud from the Aqueduct; and that the same be cleaned as soon as convenient, and the New Trunks put in at the same time if necessary; & if not, to be put in next year.
