At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Wednesday the 4^th Day of March 1840
Present: M^r Wyatt, M^r Martin, M^r J F Fisher, M^r Eycott, M^r P H Fisher, M^r Holbrow, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r Wathen, M^r Beard, M^r Hughes, M^r Cosham, M^r Croome.
Examined the Books & Accounts of the Company.
M^r Croome attended and made Claim to the Canal Share N^o 57 on the part of M^r John Stanton of the Thrup in the parish of Stroud Gentleman who married Mary Darke late of the same parish - Spinster - in whose name the said Share now stands in the Books of the Navigation by producing Extract from the Register of Marriages of the parish of Painswick, and the Certificated of the Rev^d Robert Strong Vicar of the said parish of Painswick, whereby it appeared that the said John Stanton of the said parish of Stroud Batchelor and the said Mary Darke (then of the parish of Painswick aforesaid Spinster) were married in the parish Church of Painswick by Licence the thirteenth day of March 1827 by the said Robert Strong the Vicar. And the Claim of the said John Stanton as the husband of the said Mary Darke, to the said Share N^o 57 is hereby allowed accordingly.
M^r Croome also attended and made Claim on the behalf of the said John Stanton to the Shares numbered 145, 92, 135, 136, 137, 144 and 176 in this Navigation, standing in the name of the late William Weale Darke, formerly of Stroud afterwards of the parish of Painswick and late of Cheltenham in the County of Gloucester - by producing the Probate of the last Will and Testament of the said William Weale Darke under the Seale of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury bearing date the 31^st day of October 1839 whereby administration of the Will of the said William Weale Darke bearing date the 18^th day of February 1837 with 3 Codicils annexed was granted to the said John Stanton one of the Executors named in the said WIll. And the claim of the said John Stanton to the said seven Shares Numbered 145, 92, 135, 136, 137, 144 & 176 was and is admitted accordingly.
Thomas Clutterbuck Croome of Cainscross near Stroud Esq^r attended and made claim to two Shares Numbered 46 and 186 in this Navigation standing in the Name of Thomas Croome late of Cainscross aforesaid Gentleman by producing the Probate of the last Wil and Testament of the said Thomas Croome under the Seal of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury bearing Date the 20 Day of April 1839 whereby Administration of the Will of the said Thomas Croome bearing Date the 4^th Day of Feby 1832 with three Codicils annexes was granted to the said Thomas Clutterbuck Croome the Sole Executor named in the said Will. And the Claim of the said Thomas Clutterbuck Croome to the said two Shares numbered 46 and 186 was and is admitted accordingly.
Ordered that the following Bills be paid, viz:
Elaias Moore: 9..18..7
Richard Bushell: 10..18..1
Ordered that a sufficient Quantity of Oak Plank be purchased for the Repairs to the Swivel Bridge at Stonehouse leading to Mess^rs Davis's Mill.
