At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation Company held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Friday the 15^th Day of April 1842
Present: M^r Cosham, M^r Wyatt, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r P H Fisher, M^r Jos^h Fisher, M^r Geo^e Wathen, M^r John Stanton, M^r Martin, M^r Holbrow, M^r Eycott, M^r Hughes, M^r Beard.
Examined the Books & Accounts of the Company.
In pursuance of the Resolution of the last meeting our Solicitor reported that he had waited on Mess^rs Marling at Ebley Mills where he saw M^r Tho^s Marling to whom he mentioned the substance of the Resolution of the last meeting; when M^r Thomas Marling promised that our Solicitors should have a communication on the subject sent to him within a few days.
Our Solicitors also reported that he has as yet received no communication form Mess^rs Marling thereon.
Our Solicitors also reported that in consequence of the resolution of the last meeting respecting the intended Exchange between this Company and the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Comp^y he has written to M^r Wilton the Solicitor of the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Company in accordance with the Resolutions, but that he has had no reply to his Letter.
[Benefit Society at Framilode apply to have only a nomin^l Sum per Ann^m 10/s]
With respect to the Resolution of the last Committee meeting concerning the allowing the upper Room of the Warehouse at Framilode to be used by the Watermen for the use of their Benefit Society, M^r Mason having reported that they hoped the Company would have required only a nominal Rent.
Ordered that the Rent be fixed at Ten shillings per annum instead of Four pounds mentioned in the said Resolution.
Ordered that the following Bills be paid in the usual manner -
George Westley's Bill (about the Crane): 19^£.6^s.9^d
John Price's Bill (castings for do): 3.11.9
And that M^r Mason do write to Marshall ^ Co of Birmingham who furnished the Crane, for an allowance in consequence of the defective state of the Crane when first erected.
Ordered that M^r Mason do look out for a Clock to be fixed up at Eastington Dock for the Regulation of the work hours of the respective labourers of the Company and to report thereon at the next meeting.
Order'd that the Wing Walls and other walls of the swing Bridges at Bonds Mill & Framilode be repaired
Ordered that the Lock walls at the Double Lock and the Eastington Lock be Repaired when the nest stopping of the Canal takes place.
Ordered that M^r Holbrow M^r Stanton, M^r Joseph Fisher and M^r Wyatt or any two of them be requested to wait on the head Clerk of the Thames and Severn Canal Company at Brimpscomb and consult as to the propriety of enacting a drawback on Coals going up the Canals and the River Thames to and below Radstock and to report to the next General Half Yearly Meeting thereon for the consideration of that Meeting.
