Summary

[1923 October] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 17^th day of October 1923 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: Jack Margetson, F A Little, Henry R Hooper, S S Marling, R J C Little, W R Bloxam, Gd Evans, J R Morton Ball, Edward P Little.
_Pike Lock - New Gates_
The Clerk reported that the new pair of bottom gates had been fixed.
_Traffic over Canal Swing Bridge in the area of the Wheatenhurst Rural District Council_
After considerable discussion Mr Bloxam was asked to draft a letter to be sent to the Clerk of the above Council, drawing his attention to the heavy traffic which is now being allowed to cross the three bridges viz: Framilode, Saul and Whitminster, belonging to the Stroudwater Navigation.
_Pile Bridge at Eastington_
The correspondence which Mr Bloxam had had with the County Surveyor was read by the Chairman and discussed. The Committee were of opinion that nothing further could be done by them at present.
_Cottage at Framilode_
The Clerk reported that Mr William Wathen had agreed to take the Cottage at Framilode lately in the occupation of Mrs Pockett at a rent of £7..16..0 per annum, and to sign usual agreement.
_Canal Association_
The Clerk reported that in accordance with the minutes of last Meeting he had written to Mr E Manning Lewis and the reply was read. The Resolution passed at the annual Meeting of the Canal Association increasing the subscription by 33⅓% was discussed and the Chairman was asked to write to the Secretary that as the Company's trading is on so very small a scale the Committee had practically decided to withdraw its name, but before any definite step was taken to this effect, he would like to learn if there was any chance of the Association permitting the Navigation to remain at a subscription of £1..1..0 a year.
_Premises at Eastington Wharf_
The Chairman read a letter from Mr Z Whiting tenant of Wharf and premises at Eastington asking for certain repairs to be done at the Wharf House. Mr Hooper undertook to visit the place with the Clerk and to arrange for the necessary work to be done.
_Premises at Bristol Road Wharf_
A letter from Mrs Tudor was read stating that the roof of the Wharf house was leaky and asking the Committee to have it repaired. The Clerk was instructed to put this in hand.
_Warehouse at Framilode_
The Clerk reported that Messrs Cadbury Bros had declined the offer of the Company either to rent of purchase the above warehouse.
_Stonehouse Wharf_
A complaint having been made about the contamination of the water in the Canal at Stonehouse Wharf by the County Council allowing tar to flow into the waterway there, the Clerk was requested to write to the County Surveyor in the matter and to ask him to abate the nuisance.
_Tonnage_
The tonnage for the period 1^st July to 16^th October was £321..19..6 comparing with £373..6..? last year and £282..1..5 in 1914.
_Balance at the Bank_
The balance at the bank was £125..2..2 against £444.5..10 last year and £522..19..8 in 1914.
Donald Sanderson Evans of 37 Tavistock Square London WC1 attended as Executor of the Will of Philip James Evans last of St Michaels Garth, Bussage near Stroud in the County of Gloucester who died on the 18^th day of January 1923 at St Michael's Garth aforesaid and made out his claim to one share numbered 42 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation and now standing in the name of the said Philip James Evans aforesaid in the Books of the said Company by producing the ticket or title of the said one share and the probate of the Will of the said Philip James Evans proved by the said Executor in the Principal Probate Registry of His Majesty's High Court of Justice on the 18^th May 1923 and the claim was admitted accordingly and a new ticket or title ordered to be made out on the ticket or title of the said Philip James Evans being delivered up.
