The Chairman and Major Little met Mr Harris at Framilode, on Wednesday morning 25.6.24, proceeded with him to Mr Harris' house at Saul.
The house in question, "Stonebree", is situated in the village of Saul, fronts the public highway, garden at side, and round the back, garden extends some few yards to a ditch, in the field adjoining.
On the other side of the public highway runs the "Saul Ditch".
Mr Harris carries on a baking business, & off licence.
It appeared that water shewed itself in Saul between two and three o'clock in the morning, reaching Mr Harris' house between 10 and 11-o'clock. The premises were flooded from the Ditch at the bottom of the garden, water running over the garden round to the front of the house, and getting in at the front door, the whole of the ground floor of the house was flooded, as was also a shed use as a flour stores and some flour was damaged. He stated he had lost some garden produce, owing to the flood, which he valued at 5/-.
The road in front of the house was not flooded, water passed along the Saul Ditch to our Culvert under the Canal, but just before reaching our Culvert some water passed under the road, through a drain from the Saul Ditch to the Ditch which runs past the bottom of his garden, cam back and so on to his premises.
