He understood that various Public Bodies and Navigations were prepared to send representatives to attend any meeting arranged to discuss the best steps to take, with a vies to opposing the closing of the canal. He thought that any deputation to the Ministry of Transport would be in a better position to state the case if it were prepared to put forward a proposal with a financial backing.
The Committee thought that it might be arranged fro the Stroudwater Navigation to combine their contribution, and it was hope that Messrs Strachan & C^o Ltd, Messrs Hooper & C^o Ltd, The Stroud Gas C^o and perhaps other Millowners on the Stroudwater Canal might be willing to give financial support, for two years towards the expense of the upkeep of the Canal, if some scheme could be carried out.
