Complaining about water running off the road and across the wharf [at Ryeford?]
10s charge for sheep washed in the canal near Stonepits Bridge. Your father paid 2s 6d for the towpath gate.
If no reply to my letter of 12 August by Monday next, I will have to consider prosecution.
As you are acting for owners of land at Whitminster aqueduct, please prevent water washing away the bank by the wing walls of the aqueduct which is likely to endanger the structure.
Committee decided that if the two young men Tombs and Lord write an apology, it would meet the case.

The aqueduct is 666 yards east of the bridge & lock, and the piling is required on the south side of the canal.

Complaint by Captain of Trow ‘Reliance’, water in Shallow lock was so low due to drawing at Sharpness he had to use a windless, and then came to a dead stop. This has happened 2 or 3 times last month.

Canal bridges are constructed to carry only ordinary traffic. Altering them for an increased load would be serious.

My inspector reports that you deposited road rubbish on Dudbridge Wharf. Who instructed this? Stop it.

My Committee agree to rent you 25 sq yards of land at Stonehouse Wharf @ 1s per yard per annum. They were disappointed you did not want 100 yards as you mentioned in your letter. 50 yards would make the rent worth collecting and give you accommodation and enable you to empty the oil tanks and dunnage. We will have to draw up an agreement so you might as well have the 50 yards.
My Committee have agreed on a rate of 3d per ton for Staffordshire Coal. Other tolls are shown.
I am allowing Mr Barnard to put an 1 or 1.5 inch water pipe over Ebley Canal bridge. Please advise when this work is to take place. I will send an inspector.

We have reduced the toll on coal to Cirencester to 3d per ton. Your toll will be reduced by 1d for the rest of the year. The through toll will be 2s 9d as a trial for the rest of the year.

Owing to local opposition we cannot allow bathing in the Canal near the sewage works at Ebley. But we have set up a subcommittee which suggested a spot near the swing bridge near the corner of Ebley Mill.

I seek the sum of £1.19.0 for repairs to the Stonehouse Swing Bridge. We have several witnesses to say that your barge Reliance damaged the bridge. Failure to pay will result in court action.
Ely was supplied with Canal water for his private use. The other purpose would have to be considered by the Committee. For this urgent use there would be a charge of £1.1.0
The works were completed and the stoppage was over on Monday 8th.

I enclose our invoice of £1.19.0 for damage to Stonehouse swing bridge by the Reliance. I have sent this invoice three times to Herbert but he has returned them claiming they did not do the damage. But we know they did.

Sir William Marling has asked the chairman to consider the question of through rates for stone from Staffordshire to the Thames & Severn Canal. It was agreed to reduce this to £3 per ton.
I refer to the matter of tolls regarding Littleton Colliery. I have received no information to my past correspondence.

Inspector Hill tells me that you do not raise the sluices when leaving Ebley pound. Do not let it happen again.
