Mr Smart's barge The Perseverance is laid up. P Evans & Sons inconvenienced having their coal delivered by rail. Can you find them another carrier. The last Captain of the barge is now working for Mr Smith of Rodborough.
As Charles Stevens has left the Army, and as he was promised by the Committee, and you were made aware of at the time, he is to return to his job as Lock-keeper at Dudbridge, Please relinquish the job and the house by a date in March. Perhaps you can change houses with Stevens.

Mr Smart's The Trial, his other boat trading to Messrs Evans & Sons, is tied up and thus the coal is coming by rail. Can you find a boat for Messrs Wards who would do this work but have no boat available.

The Inspector of Weighbridges has inspected and is prepared to let us use the weighbridge at Dudbridge but it does need repairing.

Canal needs weeding and mowing - would the Company be justified in doing this - details of labour costs given.
Although you are not able to give instructions at this time, we would point out that under the Act we are bound to maintain the waterway in a navigable condition, including weeding and mowing.

The condition as to compensation payable from the 1st September next is accepted. They thought that control would date from 31 March last and trust that the cost of the increased maintenance expenses will be taken in consideration.

Although we were waiting for completion of all the work for the removal of the debris of the garden boundary wall which fell into the canal near Lodgemore Bridge, we feel we should account for the cost of the work carried out to date as the canal is now under Control.
