Letter from Messrs Wilton, solicitors of Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Co. Liability extends only to building, erecting and completing the two bridges, and not to repair.
Mr Cambridge’s application to Company to repair fence leading up to ascent to bridge at Whitminster adjourned.
In consequence of Mr Vick's having altered his Clock in conformity with the one kept at the Railway, our time of Meeting in future shall be 9 Minutes later that that at Mr Vick's, and our Clerk is directed to keep his Watch accordingly on the days on which the Committee is called together.
Mr John George requested drawback for carriage of certain railway materials down canal to reduce tonnage to 6d per ton. Allowed.
All parties wishing their vessels to enter the dock to be repaired shall make application to surveyor. Admitted in precedence of application. Days and names of vessels entered on a list hung up in a conspicuous place at the Dock.
At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Monday the 20th day of October 1845
Present: M^R Dan^l Watts, G H A Beard, Will^m Fryer, Geo Wathen, Fred^k Eycott Chairman, W^m J Wood, Jn^o Holbrow, Rich^d Martin.
With reference to the Minute of the last Meeting respecting the Walk Bridge our Solicitor has produced a letter from Mess^rs Witon the Solicitors of the Glocester and Berkeley Canal Company, who refer to the Act of their Canal passed in 37 George 3rd 1797 page 16 by which the liability of that Company extends only to the building, erecting and completing the two Bridges in question and not to the repair of them, which appears to the Committee to be the case.
M^r Cambridge having made application to this Company to repair the fence leading up the ascent to the Bridge at Whitminster,
Resolved that the question be adjourned until the next Meeting in order that fuller enquiries may be made respecting the liability of the company to repair it.
Moved by M^r Wood and seconded by M^r Fryer,
That in consequence of M^r Vick's having altered his Clock in conformity with the one kept by the Railway, our time of Meeting in future shall be 9 Minutes later that that at M^r Vicks and our Clerk is directed to keep his Watch accordingly on the days on which the Committee is called together.
M^r Jn^o George attended relative to the carriage of certain Railway Materials down the Canal and has applied for a Drawback so as to reduce the tonnage to sixpence per Ton.
Ordered that such Drawback be allowed.
Ordered that all parties wishing their Vessels to enter the Dock for the purpose of being repaired shall make application to the Surveyor for that purpose and such Vessels shall be admitted therein in the precedence of such application. And that the days of such application and the names of the Vessels shall be entered in a list which shall be hung up in a conspicuous place in the Dock in order that all Applicants may have notice thereof.
The several Books and Accounts of this Company have been this day examined.
