Mr Thomas Beard, Clothyer near Stroud, Gloucester.

Mr Small hath ? you & other Gentlemen concerned ? to look over ye Plan of ye River & lands adjacent between Wallbridge & ye Severn. And I have ye pleasure to aquaint you that he laying down ? ? intended ? to be more through his Estate, And was further pleased to give himself ye trouble to inspect ye said Plan relating to ye intended new Cutts to be made - ? Mr Steven's Estate & at ye ? time to observe for that he apprehended ye Cutts would either prove prejudicial to Mr Stephen's House on ye North of the old River or damage his Estate on the south by being made through Easton Meadow. In order to prevent such damages, I Humbly considered ye intended new Cut may be made from Wllabridge on ye North of ye said River to be carryed (or so let .....
Head of Easton Mill & by making a short Cut & erecting a Turnpike or lock to pass by ye left said mill & to fall again into ye said old River at a ? distance below ye said mill tail & to be continued therein unto you Frombridge & from there a new Cut to be made on the south side of ye old River directing its corse towards ye rising ground so as to fall into a large Ditch that parts ye ? of Whitminster & Frampton & so on to fall into ye Severn. ? said method I hope will be of equal Satissfaction to Mr Stephens & am Sr

Mr Small & ye other Gentlemen present have perrused the Enclosed & approved of what therein signifyed & thing it Expedient to prevail on Mr Beard to wait on Mr Stevens of Chalford with all convenient Speed. Tho ? sits in relatin to ...... next to ye In ye ? would hope you'l not ? wanting to strengthen yo' [your] Interest by Endeavouring to obtain Petitions from neighbouring Towns &c in case of need, and provided yo' [your] private affairs would admit.
I (with other yo' [your] Friends) consider? it highly necessary for some others of ? to be herd to obtain a further & maintain ye present Interest of ye Members of ye ? house of Commons. I am sorry to find Matters ? but hope with ye assitacne of Mr ? and other Friends to get it right and am Gentlemen yo' [your] Humble Sevt, J
