Summary

Samuel Simmons engaged two men to sheath the Company barge on the bank of the canal.
The cut above the fifth lock must have the hedge preserved adjoining road.
Mr James requested that the towing path through his land be on the side next to the turnpike road.
Leaking upper lock gates at Bristol Road to be repaired by John Pashley.
Bricks on Mrs Ball’s land unfit for use as they were not properly burnt by Mr. Barnard.
An arched brick bridge is to be built in the upper field of Mr James’s land for a Mr Phillips.

At a Meeting of the Committee held by Adjournment at the George Inn in Stroud on Thursday the 7^th day of August 1777
Present: Joseph Wathen, John Hollings, Robert Ellis, Benjamin Grazebrook, Thomas White.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
Jos: Grazebrook has waited on M^r Price, who was not at home; the Scantling for one Lock is delivered at Framiload; and order was left for forwarding Scantlings for three Locks more.
M^r Phillips's Land and Timber measured, and the Acc^t produced.
Mess^rs Wathen and Grazebrook are desired to waite on Henry Stephens Esquire next Wednesday.
The defect in the Culvert at Walbridge no yet repaired, Ordered that M^r Bough do repaire it out of hand.
M^r Biglands Timber is delivered at Chippenhams Platt, but have no his Account of the measure.
The Work of the Bridge at the Bristol Road is measured, the account Settled and paid.
M^r Lingards Hay proved so very bad, it is Ordered that no more be had of it, and that he be paid for what has been taken.
Ordered that Geo: Maskell do immediately sett some Men to Work at Stonehouse and that no more money be paid him till he setts his Men to Work there.
Reported that Samuel Simmonds have engaged with two Men to Sheath the Companys Barge, on the Bank of the Canal.
The Banks in Pool Field are begun to be cleared, and also the Brick Yard ~~~ it is Ordered that the same be finished by the next Meeting.
Mess^rs Lingard and Bough has taken the Levell of M^r James's Land and have begun digging out the Pitt for the fifth Lock.
Ordered that the Cutt above the Lock be contracted so as to preserve the Hedge adjoining to the Road.
M^r Ellis James has requested that the Towing Path Through his Lands may be on the side next the Turnpike Road, it is ordered that his request be comply'd with, on Condition that he takes to the Banks on the other side as soon as they are Levelled.
Ordered that a Field of Hay belonging to M^r Fords be agreed with for the Sum of Thirty Six pounds.
Read Proposalls from Walter Bowen and John Couch for Building a Wall to Secure the Framiload Lock; deffer'd the Consideration of the said proposals to a future time.
Reported, from Sundry persons Observations of the Lock at the Bristol Road, that there is a great waste of water that passes thro' several parts of the upper Gates of the said Lock. ~~ Orderd that Jos: Grazebrook do give Notice to M^r Pashley to repair the same immediately.
Reported from the Inspection of Sundry Persons of the Bricks now making by M^r Barnard upon M^rs Balls Land at Stonehouse, that they are exceedingly bad and unfitt for our purpose, owing to their not being properly burnt, and that they cannot be made use of for our purpose. Ordered that M^r Grazebrook do give him immediate Notice that we shall no take any of his Bricks but such as are well burnt and approved of by M^r B: Grazebrook.
Edward Keene reported that he has been to Monmouth to M^r Evans's and seen his Timber which he approves of, and was offered to deliver it in the Gross at Framiload at Eighteen pence per foot.
Ordered that Edward Keene do go to M^r Evans and order him to send immediately Sixty Tons of his best Timber; to be marked by E Keene.
M^r Edward Keene having Signified a desire to be employed to make a Lock and find Timber, it is ordered that he do give in his proposals to M^r Hollings and M^r Grazebrook for that purpose.
Ordered that an Arch'd Brick Bridge be built in the upper Fields of M^r James's for the accommaodation of M^r Phillips.
Ordered that Jos: Grazebrook do attend the laying the Bricks at the Sundry Locks now Building at Chippenhams Platt, to take and Account of the Numbers that are lay'd, and that he be allowed One Guinea per Week for his attendance from the 21^st July last to the 1^st November next and that he do attend the Whole time to inspect the Work, and particularly that he do see the Stone laid according to the Contract Viz; the Square Quoins from Eighteen Inches to Three feet, and the Hollow Quoins from Two to four feet in the bed.
Ordered a Bill to be drawn on the Treasurer for the Sum of Three Hundred Pounds.
Ordered that M^r Jn^o Beswick be wrote to attend the Committee at our next Meeting.
Ordered that M^r B: Grazebrook do waite on Rob^t Sandford Esquire to explain to him the line of the Canal, and to desire his consent to the same.
Adjourned this Meeting to Thursday the 21^st Instant at 12 o Clock at Framiload, and from thence to the Golden Cross at Cainscross or at the George Inn at Sroud.
